Once you get the surgery building though, the down time for a wounded soldier is reduced in half, I think. Rarely will guys be out more than 12 days or so, usually just a week or so.

Besides not everyone thinking the Silent Storm engine is that great, I'm sure money was a big factor. They basically financed the game on their own, I'm sure they couldn't afford to license an engine.
