Just for clarification, Is any PDF reader OK or does it have to be the Adobe reader? I hate that bloatware Adobe. Foxit opens every other PDF file so I assume it will open the manual for this game. Right?

I bought COhttR today (8/26) and the game freezes when I try to load a scenario for it. The patch 46278beta. So I was sold a game that Matrix knew would not work? It's been about 5 months since Arjuna's last post. I'm afraid I'm going to need a refund on this, please?

This is pretty basic but since you're trying everything, did you reinstall DirectX? Especially afrter installing new sound/video drivers?

Try removing or renaming the "SOUND" folder b4 starting the game.
Try reinstalling or upgrading Microsoft net 2.0 or higher.
Try a registry repair program.
