Speaking of the escort mission I have seen it written elsewhere that putting CV airgroups onto the escort mission avoids the 'wandering air combat TF' problem. Is this correct and does at affect air combat at all?

I see all the units to the Russian base to the north as discussed and they accepted the command and set movement directly to the east (the trail). Next turn... they had reset themselves to not moving... Oh well, never mind. [:'(]

Just out of interest. If he were to only spend his PP on releasing divisions from restricted commands (eg the home island), how many months would he take to get each division free?
