MWIF is the best strategic WWII out there by far. It's a very good game. Could be a great game if they'd fix the complicated, frustrating and stubborn convoy and production part of the code.

Hmm ... I see in the AGEOD thread people are saying very positive things about WWI Gold. Any comparisons between this and The Great War?

Yeah, I didn't take Paul's response to indicate it's not important, just that it's not as important as others. Something that actively prevents correct enforcement is of more importance than something that relies on players paying attention and desiring to play within the rules.

Is your laptop below the minimum recommended resolution? It should be 1280 x 1024 or greater to display correctly, IIRC.

Ok, that worked ... I suspect the password change had more to do with it than anything else, as I was able to successfully post for an opponent earlier, it just didn't fix the problem.

I was able to fix this by going here ... and manually creating an opponent request which seemed to fix the backend bit.

Didn't work for me, unofortunately.

The full error message is: Error = 8. User name invalid: < 4 or 21+ symbols; illegal symbol (e.g., blank). Unable to access Seeking Opponent database.

Cheers for all the responses. I just had a brief mess around with setting up NetPlay, which led me to the NP tech support forum, and I think I've settled on the hotseat/team viewer option as a lot less hassle.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not ready for a game yet ... haven't touched WiF in about 10 years. Only just installed MWIF yesterday and my hard-copy manuals ...
