Re: Max oil per Base

I don’t remember ever reading that in the manual. There is a mention about production of devices stopping when you have a stockpile equal to six months, though, but six months is not equal to 100 days of production.

But it’s good to know anyway.

Re: Transport Aircraft - High Ops Loss Rates

Interesting trick, I’ll remember it !

It’s a good day when I learn something new about the game, thank you, I can go back to sleep. Or not, I still have work to go to…

Re: Bizarre combat results

I had a list attributing Kisaragi’s loss to shore batteries (on hyperwar, by the joint assessment committee : https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Japan/IJN/JANAC-Losses/JANAC-Losses-3.html ), but whatever, it’s still not a surface action loss.

By the way, there are conflicting sources on the sinking ...

Re: Bizarre combat results

Not all ships in a TF get to participate in a fight, especially against a smaller enemy TF, and especially when lacking experience or skill, or surprised.

Before I take more time to answer you, please provide the following informations :

What is the date of the combats ?

Which Japanese destroyers ...

Re: Bizarre combat results

You do remember that no Japanese surface combat ship (bigger than a small patrol boat) had been sunk by the Allies’ surface or air assets before Coral Sea, don’t you ? While in the meantime the same Allies lost, in surface engagement, I don’t remember how many cruisers (at least 5) and destroyers ...

Re: Bizarre combat results

Hi,

A couple of considerations, to answer to your puzzlement (without going too much into the details).

1) Quality of respective forces

Early war, USN warships start with low XP. Day XP is in the 50’s, while night XP is in the 30’s. By comparison, IJN warships start with day XP in the high 60’s ...

Re: Transport Aircraft - High Ops Loss Rates

I tried that, but I god a weird feeling. It seemed like « excess » reserve planes were not adequately brought in action, or maybe not immediately. Some times, I saw a reduced number of ready planes, while there were still plenty of reserve planes. I must check it, I wonder if the excess reserve ...

Re: Transport Aircraft - High Ops Loss Rates

Yes. I meant a separate series of tests in which pilot fatigue is the only variable. When you get a chance, of course.

I did a few tests, but I’m not sure they’re really conclusive. Maybe I simply did not manage to control the variables enough, though. Most times, high fatigue led to more plane ...

Re: Dutch AVP Arend: Scenario 1 Exploits

Torpedoes have a very high damage variability, so Kuma might have anywhere from 1 to 30-40 major damage. The good thing is that KXVI has 53.3cm torpedoes IIRC, and those are powerful (around 20-25% more Effect and Penetration than Mk14), so it might be quite high.
The bad is that Jintsu would have ...

Re: CS convoy refueling

Not that much, in fact*. LA-Christmas is 83 hexes, Christmas-Sydney is 98. Arriving at Christmas, a Federal type will need to top up her bunkers (because she has to do 98x2+83 hexes, +10%), so you use roughly 360 fuel for that first leg. Coming back to Christmas on the return way, the same tanker ...

Re: CS convoy refueling

Los Angeles-Christmas-Pago Pago-Sydney is 181 hexes, so 362 round trip, and is identical to SD-PH-Pago Pago-Sydney. LA-Tahiti-Sydney is 191, so 382, slightly longer but safer. However, 12k NM is 300 hexes, not 400.
PH is 60 hexes away of LA, so the round trip from PH is 242, meaning the margin after ...

Youngsters don’t play wargames anymore. Lack of patience, lack interest or too short attention spans ?

Makes me feel old and grumpy.

Good morning everyone,

I think there are few women who play these games. And fewer still who play WitP.

With that said, I think we treasure those few that do, and would like to see an increase of their numbers.

I totally support that last part. But while I have successfully introduced ...

Re: THE THREAD!!!

Good morning everyone,

It’s weird, in fact. I know a lot of girls and women who play boardgames, video games, RPGs, but none which play real war games, let alone as obsessively detailed as WitP. And it’s not that they can’t be competitive or aggressive in games (ask my sisters…). Is war gaming ...
