I have recently solved this issues and it had nothing to do with the game, it was just the first signs that my PSU was going out and the increased power drain was causing the problem.  New power supply = no problem.  Thanks for the input Bman

Unfortunately setting core affinity to a single core with SLI set on or off and in windowed mode had no effect.  I am glad however that I can still play the game on my laptop.  Thank you for the help.
