RE: OT: Beer Larceny

<t> The movie "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977) was based on running "bootleg" Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta in less than 28 hours to get around the ban on shipping Coors east of the Mississippi.<br/>
<br/>
A fun movie - but to me personally I cannot stand beer. The smell reminds me of ...

RE: OT... Military Board Games

I finally remembered the name of the SPI Waterloo game I owned and converted to Cyberboard - 'Wellington's Victory".

RE: OT... Military Board Games

BTW - the comment above about "Terrible Swift Sword" Is an SPI Game - as was the 4 map SPI "Waterloo" (can't remember if that is the name). I built "Cyberboard" version of both of those as well as "The Longest Day".

RE: OT... Military Board Games

<t> I cut my teeth on the old AH game on the invasion of France (France 1940?) Became a SPI fanatic. Especially the "Monster" Games. I had the original "War in the East" and then when they reworked "WitE" and turned it into "War in Europe". Also got "War in the Pacific", Highway to the Reich ...

Scenario @ AI updates

<t> I know I have seen this before but I just spend the last hour trying to find it again.<br/>
<br/>
I can across a matrix that showed the latest update and AI script version numbers and instructions on updating the scenarios (#1 to #19).<br/>
<br/>
My big question is that I had started a new ...

RE: OT Things to ponder

In response to the above comment on Newton's laws. The way I learned them in collage chemistry was...

1) You can't win.
2) You can't break even.
3) You can't get out of the game.

RE: Playing both sides

<t> Thanks for the Info - reassure me for playing the AI (for lack of a better term).<br/>
<br/>
I do t want to "recreate History" but on the other hand I try real hard to not use 20/20 hindsight. I look at the situation as the people on the ground in 1941 saw it - i.e. not knowing the Japanese ...

RE: Playing both sides

<t> I just keep hearing how the AI can get broken and can be screwy and I am not up to committing to a PBEM Game(Out side of Wife, Job, Family, Life I also play World of Warcraft). I just start wondering if it is possible to get in a good full game where both side play a reasonable game.<br/>

Playing both sides

Just curious if anyone has successfully played both sides (No AI) in a game? Would this count as a sign of complete insanity with no life?

Aircraft and Pilot transfers

<t> I know that I can load air squadrons on transports and move them from place to place.<br/>
<br/>
I also know that I can disband an air squadron and if there is another squadron of the same type in the hex I can have the planes and pilots moved to that squadron.<br/>
<br/>
I can also release ...

RE: Fighters not Fighting

<t> There are a couple of free programs available for screen shots. "JING" is a good free screen shot application but you will need a graphic program to convert the picture types. A good Picture manipulation program is "GIMP". This is a free program along the lines of Photoshop so it has a steep ...

RE: My one big gripe about WITP AE

<t> On keeping saves I have an archive file folder where I have a renamed copy of every "Start of Turn" (i.e. end of last turn) and a "End of Order Phase" for each game turn. Also once I finish the "End of Orders" phase for the first Game turn I make a complete Zipped Archive of the entire WitP AE ...

Yea - I know the drill and I do save often (I.T. guy). Last night was just one of those times that got a bit hectic and I got distracted.

My one big gripe about WITP AE

<t> I came face to face with my single biggest gripe about the game last night.<br/>
<br/>
I had been issuing orders for about 1.5 hours when something came up so I had to get off pretty quick. No more than 0.000001 seconds after I hit the exit button I realized I had failed to save.<br/>

recreating Historical Day 1

<t> Just for grins and giggles I have run the Day 1 turn (Historical/Surprise on) several times. One thing I have noticed is that it never comes close to recreating that BB damage that occurred in real life.<br/>
<br/>
I usually get 1 BB Sunk. Once I got 2. I have never gotten close to the 4 that ...

RE: Finally Started Turn one! And some questions

<t> One thing really struck me in the Initial Post. 10 hours to follow the Allied Spread Sheet? It takes me a lot longer than that (Allies). Course I spend a lot of time documenting the units in the game. I have Tracker but there are some things that just don't work in Tracker the way I like.<br ...

RE: Simple Newpe Question - Tenders

<t> The answer about "Unlike minefield tenders, which are a special case, they do not need to be disbanded into the port to function, although they can be." answers the issue that first got me to asking. I am going through the "Allied Setup Spread Sheet" that I found on this site. When it creates a ...

Simple Newpe Question - Tenders

<t> I am sure this has been answered before but I have not been able to find it.<br/>
<br/>
I know that to maintain a minefield the ship cannot be in a TF. Just exiting in the hex maitains the minefield.<br/>

But what about a seaplane tender? To act as a seaplane base does the tender have ...

RE: Color Bind Switch

<t> I appreciate the suggestion of Visolve and it does make the colors more legible for me. The issue is that if you click on the screen the correction goes away.<br/>

I always have issues with game designers who do not think about color blindness. I loved "World in Flames" but the colors of ...
