Re: Against Entente AI

but I still find it hard to narrate the relationship between parliamentary mood and national will. They appear to represent something similar, yet they can still move in opposite directions.
Yes and no. Recall that by 1916 there was a huge gulf in the support for the war and the attitude of the ...

Re: Against Entente AI

Admittedly, level 4 for aggressiveness seems to be a bit too high: earlier in the war, the French launched too many attacks, which might explain their state right now.
It's worth recalling that between 10 August and 31 December 1914, the French Army suffered some 250,000 dead and about one out of ...

Re: Against Entente AI

Italian entry plus a quiet winter campaigning season should help French National Will bounce back a bit. What is the plan for 1916?

Re: Against Entente AI

Looks like Italy is getting ready to join the Entente. This might be just in time for France, whose National Will in September is in the danger zone.

Re: How old are the average Wargamers here?

Turned seventy last September. First wargame was Avalon Hill's 1914 bought in 1968 followed a couple of months later by Jutland. Still have both games but haven't been able to play for ages. First computer wargame was Computer Harpoon in 1988 or 89 for a then state of the art Commodore 128.

Re: Against Entente AI

Fortunately Austria's parliament remains at Sacred Union; that might buy enough time to weather the mutinies without a government collapse. Getting rid of Conrad cannot hurt either. Good Luck!

Re: Maintenance

When I wrote Vikrant Goes to War it included events that tried to simulate the aircraft maintenance cycle on a carrier. Every midnight local time, aircraft are checked with a 70% probability that they will be available for the next day or under maintenance with a specified time to ready. They will ...

Re: Against Entente AI

With Compiegne you're a major threat to Paris but winter combat can be costly so good luck with that. I generally prioritize Bulgaria over Romania for diplomatic effort, their army is slightly better quality and once Serbia is gone, it completes the overland route to Turkey.

Re: Against Entente AI

Annihilating the Serbian Army at this stage would a good thing, well done. It also looks like you have a shot at knocking Belgium out of the war. Eliminating two minor countries helps defray some of the NW losses for casualties while exacerbating NW losses for the Entente. Finger's crossed.

Re: Against Entente AI

Ageod games have taught me to make peace with such unexpected moves.
Fair point although given that area Kunamy has a lower movement point cost than the alternative where the Third Army detachment is located. This might explain the seemingly counter-intuitive "withdrawal".

Fast forward to the ...

Re: Against Entente AI

Ottoman Turkey is a difficult ally. The Army is reasonably effective even if the army commanders are mostly mediocre but when Enver's obstination events kick in, the Army will be required to make attacks or lose NM, except that these offensives often also cost NM due to losses. With three fronts ...

Re: Against Entente AI

So where's the main body of the French Army? Enquiring minds want to know.

Nice job isolating Samsonov's army in East Prussia. The German Fourth Army inflicting horrific losses on the French is historical; look up the Battle of Rossignol on 22 August where the German VI Corps effectively ...

Re: Against Entente AI

I think I read somewhere that some people manage to keep British out of the war, though I believe it requires to respect Belgian neutrality.
I have never experienced this but I suppose that it is theoretically possible. One of the great aspects about WW1G is that it follows the history really well ...

Re: Against Entente AI

Getting the Ottoman Empire on side helps, well done! With the Diplomatic Poker option it might have been better to prioritize getting Italy to adhere to her treaty obligations and declare war on France. The British are coming in with France and Russia regardless of any diplomacy you can try, which ...

Re: Against Entente AI

Thanks for the invite. My previous experience at PBEM (not with WW1G) did not go well and having been once burned, am reluctant to try again. Besides, I am not sure that the game even with Patch 1.07Q is stable enough to actually handle PBEM for any length of time. But thanks anyway. Apologies for ...

Re: Against Entente AI

The Diplomatic Poker option is a must for the Central Powers in any 1914 Grand Campaign.

By way of shameless plug, have you tried my fixes and edits to WW1G?
