I believe you will be able to update your game and continue on with your association. I have installed numerous patches and have no trouble with my associations. I have the free version.

I don't know if this will help or not, but make sure to not only run the game with admin rights, but also install the patch with admin rights. I don't have many problems with games as long as they are ...
