This may be a stupid question, but did you try running it as administrator?

But if Windows Explorer is crashing when you try and view properties and log files, it sounds like a more serious system issue. (Disk corruption maybe?)

My suggestion: Linux and MAC port.

I know it is currently written in .NET. But I suggest checking out a product such as Mono: www.mono-project.com. Which allows for cross compiling.
