The manuals are included in the downloadable version as well. PDFs. Also alot of videos and training tutorials. And you can ask here on the forums if there's anything that's unclear.

You can save at most times. Don't worry about that During some shorter phases you can't save, like in alot of turn-based games. You can play solitaire with yourself yes.
