books or videos on operational warfare

<t> Since there are some serious WWII lovers on this site, I would like to know if someone can suggest me a good book or video treating subjects like logistics and intelligence gathering in operational planning. It can focus on specific operations, but I would like it to treat those subjects on a ...

RE: two questions

<t> Thanks Curtis.<br/>
<br/>
I like micro-management. I like to have control of each bit of decision. I don't like games in which you just set the direction and the computer does the rest. But I think that pointless micro-managing is the problem. Relevant micro-managing is welcome. If digging in ...

two questions

<t> 1. I remember reading in the manual that units will dig in at the end of the turn automatically. Is this thrusthworthy? Will units dig in when an early turn ending happens?<br/>
<br/>
Digging in and changing losses tolerances are two extremely painful things to do in Toaw. I think that the ...

RE: retreat direction

<t> I really like the idea of making it dependent on losses settings and the direction of the HQ being priority in case it succeeds to retreat in a favourable direction.<br/>
<br/>
First of all, setting losses tolerance would be more meaningful than the simple fact of holding ground, it would ...

RE: retreat direction

<t> Thanks for taking your time and doing some tests. But, yet I find it strange since my supply points were to the rear. What do the units use: they retreat in the direction of the supply point, no matter the terrain between them or they try to find the shortest path, in which case they would avoid ...

RE: retreat direction

<t> Here is what I meant when I said toaw is a game based on counters rather than one based on forces and that's what makes breaking through a line so difficult.<br/>
<br/>
I have setup a very quick test and you can see by the picture that the distance which took one unit 2 turns to cross through ...

RE: retreat direction

<r> If you read what I said you'll see that in no moment I deny it can happen, I just said it wasn't predominant. <br/>
<br/>
If you read what Ralphtrickey said, you'll see that there is a variable that favors it to happen, when there is no reason to. Why the hell would a unit be more prone to ...

RE: retreat direction

<t> Stacking limits were far from being reached on all hexes around. Even the units without HQ should retreat back in the direction of friendly good order units and supply points, I think.<br/>
<br/>
Enemies blocking the way could be considered to happen sometimes. It should be more probable if ...

retreat direction

<t> I'm playing my first PBEM and something that happened a couple of times is frustrating me. My units are retreating in the opposite direction they should, placing themselves in a trap, like is shown on the picture.<br/>

RE: Two engine questions

<t> Thanks ralphtrick. <br/>
<br/>
Regarding my second question, now I have 5 units in a damaged bridge hex. Four of them for 4 turns and five the last turn. All have 13-15% chance of repairing the bridge, but after five turns they weren't able. That's frustrating.<br/>
<br/>
I like the way ...

Two engine questions

<t> 1. I always wondered if it is worth using minimise losses setting when defending. The logic of it, as far as I understand, is to spare equipment, supply etc. But since a unit that retreats must go through a disengagement check and with minimise losses the chance of retreating is greater, is it a ...

RE: reload

<t> Thanks. I feel impelled to say that in no moment my opponent made any complaint. He was very polite, in fact. But I want to be sure he doesn't think I'm cheating. He and the others to come, since I don't want to lose human opponents on that account.<br/>
I agree with what you say about the need ...

reload

<r> I'm playing my first PBEM game and my opponent notified me (very politely, I must say) that he got a reload message.<br/>

It's not ideal, but better than toggling through units on the stack. Thanks

embarking a group of units

This may seem stupid, but how can I embark a group of units on a train while avoiding others, on the same stack, to embark? If I have two formations on a stack, for example, but just want to embark one of them, without doing it individually?

opponent for a beginner

<t> Hi all! I'm new on this forum and also to the game. I have only played some scenarios against the PO and went through the manual twice, at least.<br/>
<br/>
I would like to try a PBEM game. Some small scenario with a very small quantity of naval and air units, or none at all, would be great ...
