Re: OT: Real Life Connections to War in the Pacific

Slighty off topic, but the Director of Naval History just put this out:

Navy Hellcat pilot Donald McPherson passed away on 14 August 2025 at age 103. He was the last known U.S. “ace” (of any service) from World War II. Flying the F6F-5 Hellcat of Fighter Squadron EIGHT THREE (VF-83) off USS ESSEX ...

Seems to be working with 1.0.2.0. I won't be able to try a full game for a while, but for the first couple of minutes, it is working as would be expected.

RE: Cannot Input LCU Combat Orders

<t> Now I feel dumb. I tried a hex with enemy units, and yes, it works. However, the problem still exists in a hex that had a enemy unit, but the unit was "eliminated by attrition". I had units with order of bombard and they still show as having orders to bombard which I cannot change.<br/>
Thanks ...

Cannot Input LCU Combat Orders

<t> A problem just appeared in my game. I cannot change the combat orders of any LCU. I have restarted the computer and game, and have tried different scenarios with no improvement. When I open the LCU screen, the screen appears normal except it only shows "combat orders defend" greyed out.<br/>

<t> I'm not sure he had sonar, at least wiki says the ship got sonar in 1966. The article I read said his ship was the only ship in the convoy with HF/DF which was probably the reason the Convoy Commander was so concerned. As far as Raney's career, the Convoy Commander was RN and would not have much ...

OT--Midway Movie

<t> Attached are the Director of Naval History comments on the movie--scene by scene. It is a long read because the comments are on the director's cut, the rough cut, and the script in that order. His opening line: "The recent Midway movie was a commercial success, and for the first time in decades ...

My grandkids tell me that you can get different characters in different countries. A sailor may spend a lot of time at sea, but the sailor will also make a lot of port visits.

Yours is a new theory. The International Rules of the Road apply to all vessels, the U.S. Navy are not traffic cops and are not recognized as such by international conventions. In other matters, such as piracy, all navies have a role in policing the seas.
