RE: Shock and Guards Armies and Morale

maybe "speciality" bonus is meant for cavalry, mech units which have one such bonus, guards infantry wouldnt have it so they would get the guards army bonus. Not sure if I'm stating or asking :)

RE: German railroad east of Kerch

<t> It all makes sense to me as it is, otherwise the germans could take a big chunk of the Caucasus in 41. As it stands now, you need to take Rostov first to expand your Kuban bridgehead when regular supply becomes available (I'd say imposible to do in 41 rail convertion will never get that far).<br ...

German railroad east of Kerch

<r> My FBD5 has converted all rail hexes up to Kerch, there the rail line ends and continues 2 hexes to the east at Tamanskaya (109, 117) but I can't convert from there on (neither from Novorosisk which is a port). <br/>

In the manual it says this: "<I><s>[i]</s>A hex is eligible for FBD ...

Yeah that updated game manual would be great, but I guess that work only ends after the last patch is released (I've no idea when this will be). Thanks for the heads up on the mud changes.

RE: Quality of printed manual

<t> The problem I see with the manual is that it refers to version 1.0 of the game, at least afaik. Changes in the rules are documented in the readme.doc file in the game folde. For example in the mud period of 41 (under v1.05.42 beta) the german units lost their CVs (all 1 CV) and recovered them in ...

RE: Gamey or not? Opinions sought

<t> A combination of both depending on the requirements of the sector in question. Coperation between diferent panzer corps is sometimes essential (in this case move first the corps that is further from the attack point so the other corp(s) will have more MPs to get into the breach than otherwise ...

RE: Immediate Fix Required

<t> This is a game project that started in 2000 or so (from the rulesbook) thus it's imposible that the issue in question (as well as many others) has not been thoroughly studied before game release and further after that with the tests/patches. For that reason it would seem very unrealistic for me ...

RE: some advice from OKH experts needed

I would focus on taking Novgorod b4 crossing the Luga and then envelop the Luga line, tightening the nose around Leningrad might be interesting even if you dont take it in 41.

I disagree, the contruction Bns do an invaluable job, but at a diferent pace and with diferent objectives than the contr. brigades. Their main value is creating multichanneled supply paths that partisans cant take down eventually...

RE: Crossing rivers

Crossing a river is much more costly in MPs if there are ZOCs affecting the hex(es) where you are crossing, specially for mobile units. So try open a bridgehead (a hex with no enemy ZOC influencing it). That will make for the best posible advance.

If you have shift+R activated you will see units that are whithdrawing in the next 1-5 turns bordered in red on the map. They'll also be listed in the reinforcements and withdrawal screen.

RE: Winter Defense: Checkerboard, or Linebacker?

<t> I would combine both kinds of defence if necesary but prefer checkerboard to keep things organized cause the blizzard is a major mess by itself. If they try to sneak in between your units then a fighting withdrawal is next, but never lose the combat integrity of the kampfgruppen (by having 2-3 ...

RE: Miraculous saving, bug or feature?

In clear weather with no EZOCs interfering it doent look strange to me. Keep in mind minimum number of MPs for foot units I think is 8 and max 16. And MP costs for clear and light woods would be 1 for foot units as well.

<t> Moscow area is nice with several pop4 towns in which to stablish strongpoints, but you need a buffer zone in the Tula area to retreat through till the line Kaluga-Maloyaroslavets-Naro Fominsk- Podolsk-E Moscow. To the north Dimitrov, Klin and Kalinin are mandatory anchor points imo. If any of ...

Axis units located in town, city and urban hexes can mitigate the first winter rules regarding damaged ground elements and morale ...
