Deep Water

Is there a historical reference that identifies the channel that allows the back door past New Orleans for ocean going ships?
I have been looking, and the only references I see for bypassing New Orleans by water are with shallow draft (about four foot) craft.

Unloading baggage while under fire

Running the Guns with a war fleet looks feasable.

Unloading 30k troops while under bombardment from all those Charleston artillery pieces?
I have a hard time with that.

Though it does make more sense, than debarking in downtown Charleston. [:-]

From what I have seen on the video, the map and counters look fine.

The proof of course will be once I start playing.
I really liked Forge of Freedom, and wanted to like ACW I, but playing it just felt like too steep a learning curve.
