Re: What am I missing?

I feel the same as the OP. Huge fan of the SC series. But this one doesn't deliver in the same ways as the others did. Gets boring soon, because there aren't many strategic choices to be made, except for some amphibious operations by the Union (which are useful for taking out CSA ports, but hard to ...

1864 scenario ends in 1864, not 1865

In the description, the 1864 scenario (Make Georgia Howl) is said to end in dec 1865 (33 turns).

However, a victory check is made in november 1864, which gives either side a minor victory by possessing 3 out of 5 key cities. These cities are the same for both sides. So, inevitably one side will ...

Re: Yet Another Amphibious Landings Thread

I prefer static to mobile defence of the coast. Deny the AI landing spaces. And use cheap ships near the possible landing hexes.

In my experience you need 3 units to protect Norfolk, 2 units for New Orleans, 1 brigade for Savannah, Jacksonville, Apalachicola and Pensacola.
Charleston and Galveston ...

Re: How Strategic Command American Civil War succeeds as a strategic and operational game

We must have a different definition of "tactical" and "operational". Units on a specific battlefield like Gettysburg, regiments/brigades trying to flank enemy regiments/brigades as part of the overall battle plan is tactical. Maneuvering divisions/corps of an army across the countryside of ...

Re: How I won with a major Confederate Victory in July 1963.

As the CSA I largely win in the same way. I guess most players do against the AI. And that seems to be the problem of this game.

I mean, I do some smaller things differently. I do invest in a few ships to keep the blockade runners going (money + earlier Great Power intervention). And I prefer a ...

Is diplomacy superfluous?

Played a few games now. In my first game as the CSA I made the mistake of investing in diplomacy in the hope of getting Missouri or Kentucky, but it appears you need to be very, very lucky for that to succeed.

Same with the big powers. The power of your choice always joins when playing the CSA ...

<t> Happy to hear you discovered this game. I'm a fan of SC since the very first title. It has never disappointed me (even during the brief experiment with a square grid instead of a hex grid [;)] )<br/>

Despite its elegant simplicity this game evokes WW1 and WW2 better than much more ...

RE: You should try all solo's

<t> I managed a win as France in the Triple Alliance campaign (on intermediate). The key to any Entente victory is the same: get German morale to zero before both Russia and France break. If you play either country you control your own destiny, even if your allies achieve little. <br/>
As France ...

RE: You should try all solo's

<t> I agree. The Germans were more in the way than anything else. In the cramped fighting conditions of the Italian front, this became a real problem. It was the only time I felt it justified to move them out of the way. Worse still, they were neglecting the western front, where they were pushed ...

RE: You should try all solo's

<t> Depends on the nation you're playing. If France, you do it yourself. If UK, it will be up to the British troops.<br/>
Defending the south against the Italians is surprisingly easy. Three corps and 1 HQ are enough: 1 corps at Grenoble and 2 at Nice or Toulon (not Monaco). You don't need to ...

RE: Expert versus Intermediate

I always assumed the bonuses were the only difference between the difficulty levels. But you could be right that the AI behaves differently. In that case not applying the bonuses might actually disadvantage the AI if the higher agression level relies on the experience bonus.

You should try all solo's

<t> This game is fun, but there is less replay value than in the SC WW2-games, I find. My solution: playing solo. It's challenging and it's much more enjoyable than I expected.<br/>
<br/>
1. Excellent: UK, Russia and A-H<br/>
2. Fun: France<br/>
3. Challenging: Ottomans and Serbia. <br/>

RE: attacking zero supply sub

Destroying subs is more difficult than in any other SC game. They seem to bypass my ships without any problem. And never hit a mine either.

Anyone found a decent strategy to deal with the German subs when playing the UK?

RE: Russia.

Interesting. So even a normal surrender doesn't result in taking over the whole country? I was considering turning down the Lenin option in my next game, but there doesn't seem to be much point now (except for having no Bolchevik influence in the army, I suppose).

You can't DOW Russia after the armistice. Anyway, what woould be the point? If you want Russia completely, just dont accept the Brest-Litovsk treaty.

Hi Hubert,

My default resolution is 1920 x 1080.

Something went wrong when I first opened the game after install and there was some kind of error message when I tried to choose the full screen option.

That worked. Well, in a roudabout way. I still got a few error messages about "video not supported" and then it did it anyway. Works without a hitch now.

The game only occupies part of the screen. I can't even start a game because some buttons are beyond the borders.

In "settings" the only resolution is "1280x720" and the full screen-option is greyed out.

RE: Can the USSR remain at war without a Capital?

Yes, it can happen. But not for long. In most cases the USSR surrenders after the last capital has been taken. Sometimes surrender happens the turn after. Or, unlikely, the one after that.
