RE: Best flying game ever?

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>ORIGINAL: Sieben<br/> <br/> Since the thread started with spam, whatever happened to that Russian WWI flight simulator, Rise of Flight? I played it and WOFF a lot and thought ROF was superior in flight characteristics and airplane graphics. It didn't look like much on the gr...

RE: Best flying game ever?

<t> No combat in it but have you guys see Microsoft Flight Sim 2020? Looks insanely good and all the stuff with accurate ground visuals is very impressive. I’ve always wanted to try the thing of going online and flying around an airport while talking to a human ATC and doing it just like real life. ...

RE: ANALOG 4X space game

There is also the not-so-creatively-named game from GMT called Space Empires 4X, which is apparently very good and even has a solitaire mode and several expansions. I would get it but I already have enough space 4X games on PC that I never get around to playing!

RE: What Book Are You Reading at the moment?

<t> Currently reading Day of Battle by Rick Atkinson. Covers the fighting in Sicily and Italy in WW2. I really enjoy this style of history telling, where you get a look at everything, the big picture, the generals, the leaders of state, and also lots of personal accounts from individual soldiers at ...

RE: GoG sale OMG

Some really good deals on RPG’s over there, both new and old. All the “Enhanced” versions of classics like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, etc. are $5 a pop and Dragon Age Origins also. I’m eyeing Pathfinder: Kingmaker, heard lots of good things about it.

RE: Big and complicated and super detailed isn't always a winner

<t> While I love complex games and have purchased more than a few monsters, I appreciate the smaller games simply because I can have a full experience in a shorter amount of time. My daily free time is usually limited, and I’m usually tired (between work and kids), and so there’s rarely a time when ...

RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released

<t> I already had CMBO as it’s been on GOG for a long time. Might pick the other two up just for nostalgia’s sake. My journey into wargames began when I randomly picked up the CMBB special edition box in a games store in like 8th grade. That disc lived in or on my PC for the next three years or so.<...

RE: Looking for more gaming options

<t> If you’re just looking to broaden your horizons, I would highly recommend EA Origin Access. The “basic” level is $30 for a year of access to several dozen really good games. Old stuff and very new. Seriously, there are more good games then you could even play through in a year on there. No warga...

RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now?

<t> Rewatching Battlestar Galactica (2004 Version). <br/> <br/> While some of the CGI hasn’t aged well, the show is still absolutely amazing. I love how the themes of the show capture the issues of the time but still stand on their own now. Great acting all around, lots of complex characters that ar...

The Great Endeavors - A History Podcast

<r> Total shameless plug, hope no one minds! [:)]<br/> <br/> I wanted to do something for a long time and finally committed to it: making my own podcast. I decided to do a history podcast about a variety of topics, all centered on the concept of "great endeavors" throughout human history. I wanted t...

RE: Recommend a beginner scenario

<t> I was trying to get back into the game recently with TOAW III in preparation for IV and I had a good time with the Hungary-Romania 2000 scenario, playing as Hungary. You get a fairly large amount of units but not overwhelming, and plenty of options on where to send them. It's a good one for lear...

RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now?

<t> I'm watching the Ken Burns Vietnam series as well. Up to about halfway through episode 4. From my point of view, it seems to be pretty even handed. Soldiers of all sides are given their due and many voices are heard. The politics are of course covered extensively as well. I found especially inte...

I like Order of Battle better. Feels more tactical and less like a puzzle to be solved. Both are good though.

Really looking forward to this one as well. I want one wargame I can really sink my teeth into for awhile, and this one covers so many conflicts and theaters, it would be worth it to learn the system in depth.

Blood Bowl 2: Legendary Edition

<t> I've always been curious about Blood Bowl and this seemed like a really good chance to get into it. I was wary of the game initially because they were making you buy most of the team as individual DLC, but this new version lets you get all 24 teams in one package for $40. They're also adding a l...

RE: Top 3 games based ONLY by how long you have actually played them

Hmm I jump around between games a lot, so don't really accumulate a huge number in any one game. If I had to guess:

Combat Mission series. In particular Barbarossa to Berlin and Shock Force
Warcraft 3 - Those custom maps
Operation Flashpoint/ARMA series
