Re: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A))

Hi,

Long time lurker here, I have no heart to have to wait many years before knowing how an AAR ends (and sometime they do before the game is finished :( ), so I mostly read finished AAR and therefore can't participate. But I made an exception for this AAR and do not regret it, has been both ...

Re: Which game to start with?

Conrad is perhaps the worst Chief of Staff on all sides, though Cadorna & Enver Pasha come very very close. Not counting the Romanians here as they had terrible everything.

I do not agree, in fact he put the KuK army back in shape (almost) before WW1, notably by uniformising the 3 AH armies ...

Re: Curious placement of Ottoman units in 1917 campaign

Hi Bill - makes sense historically. Of course in the game, those two Ottoman units can not be commanded by the nearest German and AH generals. My impression is that the Ottoman army was more open to importing German generals or putting some of their units under German command than their status as ...

Re: any way to cause a war

Short answer no.

You can help the RNG by choosing the rigth option in event

You are not "God" or head of state in this game, but some sort of Lord of Admiralty/Minister of Sea/Ship or Chief the Navy. So it makes sense that you do not have the authority to declare war, but enough power to inflex ...

Officers
- Made sure officers can never be so stupid that they get invalid ability ratings.

I thought RTW aimed for realism, so removing really stupid officers or CiC reduces the immersion and historical validity of the engine.

Good job on the other bugs.

If I am not mistaken PoW still had engineers on board because its electronic fire control was basically untested and did fail during battle, she couldn't "aim" properly. She was rushed out of shakdown to answers a very urgent threat, if my memory serves well she was 2 months early on planned active ...

Since IRL there is more ship lost to mines than every other causes [air, sub, surface action, shore battery, weather, accidents...] during time of war, and that with every navies putting some effort in anti-mine warfare, the game would be missing a lot if there was no mines

it is possible that the major Allied leaders (Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin) could intervene and reform ABDA allowing continued joint operations.

They didn't have joint area of operation IRL (pacific vs indian) and "relativlty" light commitment on that theater. But you are right too because ...

There are advantages to forgo Pearl, since the targets are nice VPs but mostly irrelevant for a long time to come, and then KB is stranded in the middle of nowhere and has to burn fuel to come back  . As for oil... yeah the longer you wait the more chance they get damaged in a fight and it is ...

Go anywhere else since it will be carrier-free. It will also give you a good head start on intel if allies wants to land anywhere (south)east. Alternatively, concentrate forces and go all-in.

Early, allies have two options, being strong somewhere or fleet-in-being. At least now you are set.

As for ...

Re: Rule the Waves 3 User Poll

I think RTW is like the total war series : The strategic aspect is ok, The tactical battles are ok; Both together make an awesome game.

RTW has an aspect that does make the gameplay differs a lot though, in captain mode you can micromanage (and outplay an AI) the ships in battle, while in admiral ...

Just a quick note: The code for the AI only reacts to your ship maneuvers; it never, ever reacts to actual torps in the water.

Thanks!

I would absolutely love to see *actual* positions with game-mechanic impacts (great officer in BuOrd improves gun research, incompetent boob at BuEng means slow ships, etc), but this appears to be a workable first step.

Shoot first.
Shoot big.
That is standard tactics in modern naval combat.

Modern naval warfare is the same as during ww2 or ww1, the mine is the king. (Remember US destroyers hidding behind cargo ship during Iran's attempt to disrupt oil flow?)

The most modern warships basically only have wood ...

It is fitting the 1st post be about armor, there was a lot of it in the old forums. Lot of it is still actual, so you may want to take a look there. I'll link only one thread since it has a graphic or the armor distribution.
