Ok, just curious, I'm over 100 years into this game and not a peep, but I also started everything at prewarp levels so maybe that has something to do with it

I didn't set the posture to attack because I didnt want my ships to just go off on their own attacking anything in site. Am I mistaken about this? I just don't want my fleets to go on the offensive attacking a less than friendly neighbor without me knowing about it.
