I'd like to be able to set any place as the home base. Not in the dropdown box of fleet menu, but if I'm willing to click on it on the galaxy map. Especially useful when playing as pirate.

That's a 1080p native screen he has, but only 15 inches. That's 147 ppi. It's hopeless to try to run this game at 1080p on that laptop. 540p would be great resolution for that screen size, but iirc game does not support below 1366x768.

For what you want, the game forces you to "have ship design set to manual" by using the checkboxes.

It should make you feel better that this is on the dev's list of things to change.

I've been including medical and recreation as part of the defensive platform design. I assumed that those facilities are actually providing their benfits.

You need to research to unlock them.

Carriers - You need Tactical Interceptors. Under Weapons branch, in the Star Fighters section.

Resupply - You need Accelerated Construction. Under Energy and Construction branch, in the bottom section.
