RE: Distant Worlds 2 News?

<r> If you guys are looking for a space 4x with pre-space gameplay check out Predestination. Been in development for years but progress continues. <LINK link="https://store.steampowered.com/app/340210/Predestination/"><s>[link=https://store.steampowered.com/app/340210/Predestination/]</s>https ...

RE: Distant Worlds 2 News?

<r> I check often but I doubt the official announcement will be in this thread. It will get its own topic and such I would think. <br/>
<br/>
Still, every time I see new post in this thread I get slightly excited and then disappointed, just like I'm sure what I'm doing to other people by making ...

RE: What are your fleet compositions?

<t> I tend to go with a standard set up as follows:<br/>
<br/>
- All escorts are automated, designed to slightly outmatch the firepower of most pirate frigates I see to escort my private sector economic vessels throughout my empire. This tends to keep them close to the action.<br/>
<br/>
- Most ...

RE: Distant Worlds 2 News?

Yeah, I must say that even though I enjoy playing Stellaris to a certain extent I feel like it is missing some key things that DW has. So in a way playing Stellaris has me more excited for DW2 so I'm looking forward to learning more about it in the (near?) future :)

RE: Ememy Targets

Sins of a Solar Empire handled this well. When you left a system it was covered in a fog of war but you could still see what was in the system when you last left with a timer saying X seconds since last scouted to let you know things may have changed. Maybe for DW2?

RE: Suggestions for Distant Worlds 2...

I'm actually enjoying my testing time with PS quite a bit. Feels like an interesting mix of traditional 4x game elements with some DW added in given its real-time nature. Probably best to save such a discussion for a different thread/forum so as not to derail the discussions about DW2.

RE: Whats next for the series?

Great news to hear! As others have mentioned, Stellaris is looking like it might provide some competition for you guys, but I have every confidence you'll rise to the task :)

RE: How 'complete' is the simulation?

<r> I've never tried playing the game with just one ship, but it is certainly possible I suppose. As others have suggested, controlling just one fleet and leaving the rest of your empire on auto might be a better way to go. Just keep focused on your fleet for a while and occasionally zoom out to ...

RE: Stellaris a new grand strategy game from Paradox

<t> I'm pretty excited to see what Paradox can offer the space 4x genre. After the debacle with SOTS2, I'm surprised they are setting out to make a similar game themselves. While DW remains the king of real time space 4x games for me, I'll certainly be keeping my eye on Stellaris. That is, of course ...

RE: Distant world add on

Personally, I'd love to see it go the other way. Eve already has ship-controlled combat and now ground-based FPS. I've love to see a real-time 4x game set in the Eve universe. Then again, why go through all the trouble of making a new game when Distant Worlds can just be modded :)

RE: So where to start...

<t> Go to the 2nd page of the general DW forum and look for a post titled The New Guy Newbie Guide to Fully Non Automatic Manual by Timotheus. That will set you well on your way to your own fun manual-controlled game. It really is a great guide. I would link the thread directly but the board is ...

RE: Thanks

<r> I've had Distant Worlds for a few years now, but when I first picked up the game I found it to be kind of boring. I knew I could have turned off a lot of the automation but I felt intimidated about doing so because of how many things it appeared that I would have to juggle controlling. I enjoyed ...
