RE: Best weapon type?

<t> The best weapon type in the game are torpedoes mid to late game. They are long range, very flexible for point blank to stand off range, have a large alpha strike and do good dps. They are best for fleet combat if you want kill the enemy as quickly possible. They are also power hungry and boring ...

RE: Why do AI fleets never attack monsters?

<t> I was kinda of vague earlier. What I meant to add is that if you build enough ships that are left on automated, they will over time attack the monsters in your territory, that is systems that have a colony, or a station, or a mining ship with an escort. They don't actively go looking for them ...

RE: Why do AI fleets never attack monsters?

<t> AI ships do hunt down and attack monsters. The ai uses individual ships that are automated and that are in the same system. Basically the same way they handle pirate attacks. Within a few years most monsters will be dead expect for the ones that respawn or the silver mist, which the ai struggles ...

RE: Looking for ideas.

<t> I am a fan of missiles, phasers and fighters. Basically fast missile boats, big and small carriers, and fleet ships designed for massive missile barrages supported by phasers at mid range. I started to use cheap escorts with only a single gravity weapon and a fighter bay, which works well.<br ...

It's been a few updates since I've played, but I seem to recall a bug where ships that are damaged (if set to auto) will go back to a base to repair even if they have the ability to repair themselves. Still the case?

RE: Questions I cannot answer

<t> 1. The AI uses the ships class for mission roles and fleet assignments. How ships behave in combat depends on the ship's design and engagement settings against weaker and stronger targets, which is set in the design screen. The ship class has no effect once it enters combat. Fleet combat will ...

RE: Energy Collectors

<t> For ships I just add enough until it covers the static energy use. The reason is that the collectors only work when the ship is idle. It saves on fuel but they become useless once the ship starts to move.<br/>

For stations, which are always idle, I add enough to cover the static usage ...

For me that is part of the flavour. Starting out with the Gizureans as next door neighbours is a totally different scenario than starting out next to the Shandar. That means I will have a very different (early to mid) game even if my ...

<t> The reason why I automate construction ships, beside minimizing micromanagement is that after several years of having multiple sources of every resource and control of the super luxuries, you end up as a post scarcity society. <br/>

RE: Manually migrant ?

<t> There is no way to manually move your own race's population. You can encourage it by making the colony's current population happy, ie med/rec centers, low taxes, assimilate policy. I think your biggest problem may be that you are killing off the current population and that the planet may have ...

RE: Role Playing DW:U

<t> I don't really role play in games. Instead my choices are based on how I want to play. For Distant Worlds the race I play depends on the play style and strategy that I want to follow. So say that I want to be an aggressive raider with no plans for an end game. I would choose one of the insect ...

RE: How many mines is enough?

<t> This is an area I try to minimize micromanagement. I basically just build between 4-12 constructor ships and have them be automated. The AI has problems countering a single plant destroyer and the ancient guardians. It does' not stand a chance against the shakturi and their massive advantages. The shakturi is really the end game for the player to take on.

RE: What are the roles of fighters and bombers?

Yeah the fighters will attack other fighters and bombers, but they mainly go after ships and bases if it was their first target. The fighters' lasers do good damage against shields and are good at chasing down ships, so it's not something to worry about or need to micromanage.

RE: The Shakturi Presence

They show up if you trigger some events and after the average tech across the empires hits a certain level. What that is, I don't know. They have not shown in most games I have played though. So it's not random, but it's also not guaranteed they will show.
