Re: Wine/Linux Testing

Anyone tried GE 7.9 yet? DW is supposed to be much more stable as per the Steam Thread.

Re: Wine/Linux Testing

That does get me past the launcher and through the game setup screen, however it always crashes within a few seconds after generating the galaxy.

For me changing the proton version to the latest GloriousEggroll release fixed the crashing, or at least it didn't crash in the 5 minutes or so I ...

Re: Wine/Linux Testing

Here is a guide from ProtonDB, from a guy named Lain@X, maybe this works?

Tinker Steps:Custom Proton, protontricks

Ensure you have protontricks installed. If you don't have it, follow the installation guide here[0] (see the pipx titled section)

Go to "Distant World 2" properties, force a ...

That looks like you have to register your Windows too.

Very disappointing. No DW2 for me.

RE: Recon and unguided bombs questions

I have found that in Command, modern targeting computers enable a single aircraft to take out targets with dumb bombs from 10000 ft. Times have changed it seems.

RE: Periscope/Sub detection [1.15.1]

<t> It is actually not just subs that are detected by the eyeball, but also everything else. If you replace the sub with a 7m RHIB for example, the eyeball can detect it from 1.6 nm at night. Or at least it can see there something on the surface almost 3 km away...<br/>

Periscope/Sub detection [1.15.1]

<t> Hello there, you might or might not remember the post I made a while ago about the strange long range detection of submarines by the Mk.1 Eyeball. You asked for a save and I promptly forgot about it. I create this new thread to bring this to your attention anew.<br/>

In the scen file a ...

When at preset depths, they wobble +- 1 foot, like between -65 and -66 feet.

[998.10] Detection of Periscopes by Mk.1 Eyeball

<t> A Mk.1 Eyball can detect submarine scopes/masts at periscope depth from 0.9 nm during the blackest night. It can also classify the submarine type (SSN, SSK etc.) I checked for moon phase btw...<br/>

I checked this by placing a generic car on the coast (removed its binos) and determined ...

Why do you think they don't have any magnification?

Because they can't classify surface and land contacts beyond vanilla eyeball ranges. At night, they don't even see them.<br/>

Sub periscopes and photonics masts

<t> I wonder, almost all subs in the database don't seem to have any optical magnification or low light/IR capabilities. Just look up the Virginia or Akula as examples. The only exception I have found so far are British A-class in the CWDB with a 'generic optical sight'. Are they somehow built in ...

RE: What i am doing wrong?

Maybe they circle too close and they can't make an attack run. Move them away a little and try again...or check whether the aircraft is too low to drop bombs. You might also have doctrine or WRA settings which prohibit the drop.

RE: Mk 82 Bombs

<t> I have played around with iron bombs on modern aircraft, and you can be quite accurate up to 15000 feet or so, as long the aircraft has advanced INS bombsights. Mk84s even to 18000 feet. It's so accurate in fact that I consider them viable alternatives to guided weapons if there is no ...

RE: Help\Thoughts about UAVs

<t> Well the UAV is meant to loiter for some time on target, for many hours. That way they can see the movement, comings and goings at/of the target, produce better recon and are more likely to be there when a target of opportunity pops up.<br/>

What I noticed with CMANO drones is that they ...

I got one question for you guys. Wouldn't the Syrians or even Russians have an AEW flying over Syria at all times? An A-50 would be able to "spot" and track the missiles from a distance of 80 nm (tested in CMANO). After that, the S-400 ...
