RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<r> <QUOTE><s>
</s>What's draw the stinger, exactly. Thomas mentioned something about that too. I'm<br/>
guessing that you park your ships under your air cover umbrella and dare your enemy<br/>
to approach your ships. Right? <e>
</e></QUOTE>

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> From now on the Imperial Air Force won't be able to do much to the allied fleets,<br/>
unless they get very, very careless.<br/>
<br/>
The best idea might be to horde your planes, stack them out of the range of allied <br/>
fighters, and wait until you can unleash truly massive raids ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> Pull some troops out of China and deploy them elsewhere. You have full divisions in some places facing only<br/>
much smaller Chinese units.<br/>
<br/>
Pull them out and send them rampaging on other fronts (Burma, Australia) where the presence of three or four full-strength<br/>
Japanese ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> IMHO you should start with trying to retake some of the islands between the US and Australia.<br/>
<br/>
I think (?) that will make sending reinforcements (ships, planes, men) to Oz much safer.<br/>
<br/>
And, being as those islands are on the far periphery of the Empire, they may be less ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> If you got the Kaga, that's great!<br/>
<br/>
The control of the Pacific depends on 10 ships: the Japanese carriers. Once they are sunk,<br/>
you can go anywhere you like, and the Japanese will be hobbled and unable to advance.<br/>
<br/>
And, unlike the US, the Japanese get few new ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

Good work! It's the Nells and the Bettys that you will have to fear the most.

If they start taking heavy losses, that will a) make the Japanese player exert
more caution in using them at long range;
resulting in b) safer oceans for the allies.

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

This is still only Feb. of 42. If you wait, the allies will have so many carriers and so many defending planes that no Japanese attack can get through to them.

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

Japan needs to take Mindanao.

Make sure you don't overload Java; because if Japan bypasses it, it can end up becoming the biggest
self-supporting POW camp in Asia...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

The Philippine units ought to be able to disappear, and then reappear as guerillas in about six months.
Maybe the allied player can disband them, and then have them converted.

<r> <br/>
<I><s>[i]</s>I'm going through the OOB moving all the units in T4 and I've come upon the HQ group for Gen. MacArthur. I notice that there's no Command group in the equipment list so I'm taking that to mean that the general himself has already gotten out of the Phillippines. Probably by PT ...

BANZAI!<br/>
<br/>
Now is the chance to take all the islands between the US and Australia--Fiji, Samoa, etc.<br/>

That will gain a lot of time for the Japanese player, as these will have to be retaken by the US; and I think<br ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> Sinking the two American carriers was one better than the historical Midway; but the loss of four Japanese carriers<br/>
will hurt. However, this will leave the American short <br/>
of carriers for the next six months or so--meaning, it's<br/>
time to expand the Empire as much as possible ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> Try and sucker the allied fleets into combat NOW. The Imperial fleet has nothing to<br/>
fear, so long as few allied land planes are involved; and perhaps not even then. And then try<br/>
for surface action later.<br/>
<br/>
The American fleet can do nothing but run; and if it chooses to ...

I would retreat even from Guadalcanal. I think the marines might be next to be fed to the Imperial dragon, if they are not removed.

Like MacArthur, you will return later; just not now.

<t> By all means get all the islands you can, now; because you won't be able to do it later.<br/>

And, you might run a scouting ship along the coast of OZ, to see what kind of garrisons are there. It is just possible that<br/>
the allies have left a port with only a weak garrison, that you ...

<t> By all means take Fiji; if you can interdict the line from the US (Hawaii?) to Australia,<br/>
it will be impossible for American planes to fly in to reinforce Australia; and ground forces will have to sail a long, long way through Japanese waters to get there.<br/>

<t> Be sure you garrison all the islands you capture--even with just a small unit; otherwise<br/>
later the Marines will land and take them back on one turn, at no cost. After that, they <br/>
may land aircraft on them, which will give their ships cover if they choose to advance their fleets. <br ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> Right now the Imperial Navy is the 800 lb. gorilla. When the carriers (or at least most of them) are combined into one fleet, they are invincible. They can go wherever they please. Group them together and stomp your way through the forest; it doesn't matter if the allies hear you because they ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> Your ships around the Solomons, Guadalcanal, etc., look like they are lost sheep looking for a shepherd. Remember, there are wolves out there. No ship should go anywhere that it cannot<br/>
call on land-based planes for air cover. A single ship alone can be attacked from the air and picked off ...

RE: Playtest of Pacific at War 3 25 14

<t> I would get General MacArthur out of Darwin, too. Darwin can be invaded and taken (probably pretty easily, since I doubt the allies have enough spare troops to place a strong garrison there). The Japanese will have recourse to land-based planes in the Dutch East Indies, once they take those ...
