Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 5

May 5th 1945

Yesterday the Japanese garrison of Puerto Princesa on the island of Palawan was expelled and driven into the interior wilderness of the island. It took parts of one Marine division and two regiments two weeks to do the job. Marine losses have, however, been relatively light.

Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 5

First I want to apologize for the slow progress of the game lately but both me and my opponent have had health issues. Hopefully, we shall soon pick up speed again.

April 24th 1945

Two days ago US Marines started landing outside Puerto Princesa on the island of Palawan. Enemy bombers were active ...

April 7th 1945

During this night and morning an allied cruiser/destroyer bombardment force headed by USS Dayton burst through three groups of Japanese naval guardships south-east of Iwo Jima - ten enemy ships were sunk, two of them destroyers and two troop transports. The allied task force ...

March 30th 1945

The fight for Balalac Island continues, the Japanese are defending themselves well but the Aussies are slowly wearing them down. The Japanese coastal batteries have inflicted some damage and losses on landing craft and other vessels but nothing too serious.

Sweet revenge ...

Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 5

March 27 1945

Yesterday Aussie forces started landing on Balalac Island, north-east of Banggi Island. That day the Imperial Navy seemed rather passive while their fly-boys revelled in a virtual massacre of a large group of landing craft leaving the area.

This morning, however, the Imperial Navy ...

Thank you, Terry, excellent de-briefing! Your intelligence officers may know something you don't...

P.S.: One of the APDs did actually sink but most of the crew and passengers were saved.

Sitrap March 24th 1945

Today Banggi Island was captured by US Marines after two days of all-out attacks on the ground and regular naval bombardments, mainly by destroyer-type forces, for a period. Banggi Island is situated outside the north-eastern corner of Borneo in the sound between Borneo and ...

Re: Struggling with sweeps

I'm still somewhat new to PBEM and don't have this problem nearly as much I guess with the "AI" games.

As Japan, I sweep at the beginning of the game, max alt, with A6M2 and Oscar 1(variant) and get crushed, never better than 1-1 k/l ratio.

As allied, I sweep, max altitude and get destroyed. I ...

Sorry about misnoming Terry for Matt. Seems we had played for so long that Matt got stuck in my back head.

Yes, Terry, you can need some good advice now…😇

Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 4

Hi, everybody!

I am pleased to announce that the game is up and going again. Matt, a previous opponent, has stepped up to, hopefully, help me finish it to the end. After some heroic efforts by him we have managed to line it up. We are about a week into the start-up - mid-March 1945 and we have ...

Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 4

Hi, guys, after finally getting started with Rookie II again, with a new opponent, I find that ALL allied ship's types, civilian and military, have had their AA capability/capacity denomi.nator exactly halved. As an example the Fletchers show a 290 figure - normal being 580.

Re: Rookie II - Saving MacArthur - against opponent no. 4

Hope you find someone. It's been a great read.

Thank you for your kind support! I have, however, more or less resigned to fact that no new opponents shall turn up, which isn't so strange considering the stage this game is in. His would necessarily have to be an uphill struggle.
