Re: Harrier/F-35B hover

I could be wrong but I think it's just not modelled; these jets generally only ever hover during landing (the F-35B even has its weapons disabled during a hover), so it's not something that'd generally be seen in a CMO scenario.

Re: USAF modern tactical Offensive Jammer (like the Growler)

The USAF uses (as already mentioned) USN Growlers, as well as the EC-130H / EC-37B Compass Call for stand-off jamming of early warning radars and communications systems. In general however the USAF's F-22s and F-35s are intended to perform their own jamming against X-band radars (which covers a lot ...

RE: how to identify a boggie

<t> That depends on the scenario; some bogies can be identified from a long distance by a modern jet with a good ESM / EW suite (if the enemy has radars or older-generation jammers in use), some jets might have an IRST that can identify a target from tens of nautical miles away. Ground units (short ...

RE: Noticed new sensor code Cognitive EW

<t> No idea what the in-game effects are meant to be, but 'cognitive EW' is a concept being implemented into new EW suites where if ESM detects a radar of unknown type, the computers running the EW system will try and identify a weakness for that given system. There's a myriad of possible ways that ...

RE: SEAD - hit EW or SAM sites first?

<t> It depends on the adversary's tactics and setup - for example, if the enemy's IADS isn't particularly deep you're likely better off going after radar or systems, because they're more limited in quantity, are critical for their SAMs to function (aside from SHORADs engaging low altitude targets), ...

Doing a quick test of the radars I mentioned in a previous post; the High Screen, SA-3's Flat Face and Pantsir's Hot Shot radar were jammed, the others I probably just got wrong.

RE: F-35 OECM AN/APG-81 Pod

<t> In real life the OECM pod is the F-35's APG-81 radar performing X-band jamming (which covers the I and part of the J band). The F-35 also has towed decoys that have an active jamming capability, though what bands they operate in and how long they can jam (if they can receive power from the jet) ...

RE: Stickied thread for minor database issues?

<r> The F-35 is getting upgrades made to its ASQ-239 in the 2020s (probably in 2023 with production Lot 15 jets); that upgrade covers all bands that the ASQ-239 senses, but it also specifically adds new apertures (RF transparencies + antennas). For Band 2 it's getting a new aperture in the nose gear...
