Anyone remember Squad Leader and War in Flames? The hard core among us always got into the details and had learn tomes full of rules besides. Which led to fierce arguments about those rules.

I like WITE2 because I can get the detail and control without the rule ...

I'm playing 1.04.01 and have not noticed any issues with the Germans in winter 41/42 (I'm playing Soviets). Neither can I find it in the issues reported.

Please can someone tell me which release has the problem so I can address it?

I've played a game with AI air management turned on and so seen first hand what it does. AI Air management is particularly bad and needs work. I'm an AI programmer so I get the complexities, but I still think there are things that could be done without elaborage coding.

I have also been inspired by this excellent AAR, and although I did some things differently, I was able to get good results.


However, the Soviet fighter/fighter bomber force is completely trashed. The losses in air combat run 15:1 in the German favor.

Wasn’t the original intention of the large map in WITE2, most of which is unused, to facilitate a later game or dlc that allowed one to play the entire European theater? That would address the original comment about theater boxes. At least those in Europe.

I'm in 1942 as Soviet and my tank brigades all build up in reserves and transfer to Stavka when I send them to the map. My first time getting this far :D

I thought I could then convert them to on map units, but maybe I'm just remembering WITE1?

I have no problem with folks trying to get scouted results, but I thought my result was funny because it was a hold, which implies some level of shooting at each other.

My troops have now been given remedial weapons training. Commissars will shot anyone without a passing score.

I'm still in 1941. I can't get IL-2s on the BAD airbases, only the SB-2 or the Pe-2, so I'm flying both in a 50/50 mix. The results look good (thousands of Axis casualties in the Soviet Air Phase), but I don't know how much of that is Pe-2 vs any other plane. I probably ...

I ended up in a game with Air Assist by accident (my fault). I have a suggestion to make it much better.

The most efficient use of air is GS, for which I set an AD every turn so that Reserve Air provides GS for Reserve Front, Western Air for Western Front etc.

During the summer 1941 offensive I like to have them around to complete encirclements, making them tight especially on the interior line where a weak unit works very well.

After that, attaching them to units is a good idea.
