RE: Question on real ASuW doctrine

<t> The thing to remember about the whole Belgrano affair is that the Royal Navy were operating far from home at the end of a very long and thin supply chain. The carriers were paramount to the operation. Any loss would throw a real spanner in the RN's works and even minor damage to a carrier would ...

RE: Quick Question - Periscope Depth

<r> If you think about it there is no point in being so close to the surface if you are not going to stick something up out of the water. That something will always include at least one of the periscopes and the ESM mast (which will detect radar transmissions from well over any visual horizon you ...

RE: Victoria Maria scenario

<t> Unlike the Argies in real life you know where the landing is going to be. To fulfill their mission the Amphibious Group has to get into San Carlos Water. So park your sub in the patrol box as close to SCW as possible and they will have to come to you. An even better ploy given that you know the ...

RE: Conducting SEAD against non emitting radars/SAM

<r> This is exactly why the Alarm missile was developed. Great piece of kit. A pre-strike wave of SEAD Tornadoes launch Alarms over SAM or suspected SAM sites on the ingress route a minute or two before the strike package follows them along the corridor. The Alarms scoot up to 60 or 80k feet and ...

Re-thinking the Avro Vulcan Database entries

<r> Great game, but as a Brit I honestly think you need to re-consider the Vulcan database entries on both databases. Yes the Vulcan was a <I><s></s>big<e></e></I> aircraft and yes it was designed for a hi-hi-hi mission profile but after the Gary Powers U2 shootdown (1960?) it quickly became ...

RE: Question about SAM evasion

<t> Not really sure why this is a problem. The way pilots break a SAM lock, other than chaff/flares, is by out maneuvering the missile to either turn inside its turn radius or to get outside the cone of its radar homing and thus break lock. This generally involves a tight diving (or climbing - if ...

RE: Question about phrasing navigation orders

Generally, in the UK forces nav points are given "Eastings before Northings" so Longitude first, then Latitude, similarly with 6 or 8 digit map grid-references.
