Re: How to organise command control for units?

Higher tier generals command corps, armies, army groups and have violet command cards with strategic bonuses.
Lower tier generals commands divisions and regiments (task forces) and have other colors cards with tactical bonuses.
Some generals are better than others.
Some generals have higher ...

Re: Stack value and unit strength

The Panzergrenadier battalion is also well above the 100 one-hex stack limit. I'm sure there are others.

In terms of modding, there are maybe a couple of ways to approach it:

1) Model tanks, and maybe some other units, as companies rather than battalions. So a German tank battalion would become ...

Stack value and unit strength

I noticed that the default Allied tank battalion has a stack value of 166, so it's way above the attacking stack limit of 100.

The paper strength of a real WWII tank battalion was something like 80 or 90 tanks. So a full-strength tank battalion is going to be way ...

Jagdtiger wrong soft attack/defense?

I noticed that the Jagdtiger's soft attack values - 358/269 - are huge compared to other tanks and fighting vehicles. For comparison, those of Tiger II are 88/66.

Update with masterfile?

When loading a Troop Library or Historical Library, the game asked 'update with masterfile?'.

Should one answer yes or no?

Are there standardized units anywhere?

Are there standard size units anywhere? Such as a default infantry battalion, default tank battalion etc?

If so, do they have standardized cost value, so one could create a scenario with armies for both sides having equal point value?

Re: How to organise command control for units?

Looking at another scenario - 82nd Airborne - it's got some divisions commanded by high-tier generals that give card bonuses to HQs, and other divisions commanded by low-tier generals, that give card bonuses to units. So the units of some divisions can get card bonuses, while the units of other ...

How to organise command control for units?

I'm unsure of how to organise my troops, with regard to assigning units to HQs.

Take my current game - Western Wall scenario as Allies.

RE: A tank is worth how many infantrymen on the battlefield?

<r> I found a good source. Here are the results of a survey of 109 NATO field grade officers, asked to assess the relative combat values of various different categories of weapons sytems and in various terrains. The study the table is from was released in 1993, so it's probably of greater relevance ...

A tank is worth how many infantrymen on the battlefield?

<t> How many infantrymen/riflemen is one tank worth on the battlefield? It's a bit of an abstract question and depends on lots of things. Let's say we are talking about one medium tank, like an M4 Sherman or Panzer IV, in Second World War Europe.<br/>

By my rough calculations, a single ...

<t> Initiative would be another possible layer to add to the combat process and that is not a straightforward thing to measure or even decide upon what is being measured. For example, it could be a measure of getting the drop on the enemy through better recon ability, or differences in unit mobility ...

RE: Force Ratio: Analysis and Application in Wargames

<t> When looking at historical examples, one is looking at an incomplete data set. It's not really possible to put an exact value on an enemy's morale/cohesion level, suppression level and so on in the real world. <br/>

So a historical report might say that an attacking force defeated a ...

RE: I was thinking of changing some stats

<t> Regarding artillery range, if I was playing as division = one counter, I would mod artillery to function in the same hex as the rest of the division. That may require changing artillery's unit type to make it function like other units (i.e. not be artillery so as not use the counter's AP). At ...

Which, the former or the latter? The latter (unit acting as bridge) I didn't think was likely possible, but the former (adjusting combat penalties for attacking across river) I thought might be moddable.

RE: AI using the TOE system

On further consideration, there would also need to be a way for the AI to adjust its production to fill the TOE formations it has created. Maybe it totals up all the sub-units required in its created TOE formations and then auto-adjusts production to the required proportions.

RE: Making a Combat Engineer unit

<t> I think the principle of the Combat Engineer unit would be that it costs two or three times as much as a Rifle unit, but offers three to five times as much offensive power than a Rifle unit when attacking close terrain. In all other circumstances (apart from rivers) it is no better than a Rifle ...
