Re: Narvik now what?

This post may be a little late to provide much assistance, but here goes anyway: I've always used Narvik as the linchpin to conquer Scandinavia. With the two SF units in hand, invest in one of the less expensive UK HQs and, when it becomes available, ship the Canadian armored and UK HQ units to ...

Re: Speculation on the next game in the series?

Next game . . . World War 2 in the Pacific, on the same scale as WW2 Europe, with, perhaps, the possibility of linking the two to form an even grander WWII World at War. There's also Korea, Vietnam, the Crusades, Napoleon and the otherwise endless list of European skirmishes.

Re: Map is far too large

Actually, the map seems just fine — given the myriad of skirmishes all over the place during the Civil War, one needs a fairly large map to accommodate all the battles, large and small. A World at War map with this many hexes would have been nice.

Re: St. Nazaire Raid while it beeing in British hands

The only way the 1st Free French Division (which fought in Narvik) survives in this game is through its incorporation into the suite of British forces. Historically, the 1st Free French Division was active throughout the war, making its presence felt in Africa following Narvik, then back into France ...

RE: Quick question about hex & map scales

<t> Ah, the size of the hex question surfaces again. Unfortunately, there isn't a simple answer to your question. It's easy enough to overlay hexes on a sphere, but attempting to project the results onto a flat, rectangular map on a global scale is problematic. The hexes would have to get fewer as ...

Treefrog: Valid point. Sometimes the acronyms just get in the way of clarity. By the way, I don't think they charge you extra if you spell out a word.

<t> Not a particularly big fan of modifying the game to accommodate every little nuance or ahistorical exploit a player may attempt to employ. That said, it may be worthwhile exploring a modest change to the diplomacy mechanics, invoking something of a rewards vs. penalty scenario in which the ...

<t> Elvis, you appear to be calling for a serious overhaul of the game . . . some of your suggestions are well taken from this quarter (larger map, for example). Maybe in time. Meanwhile, what's the deal with redoing the kamikazes? These guys were on a one-way trip, loaded with explosives and/or ...

Mediterranean map suggestion

<r> Now that we have successfully eliminated "freedom of navigation" and effectively turned the Med into an Italian lake (yeah, like that really happened in WW2), at least ye olde cartographers can get out their pens and paintbrushes and do a proper job of delineating those ship and amphib ...

Custom sound effects offer something to think about as game development progresses . . . I'm looking forward to the cussing, moaning and groaning from Italian troops as they're forced marched to their next destination.

RE: Anglo-French Expedition to Narvik

<t> I've taken Narvik several times, and have failed on a few occasions as well. The developers, ever mindful of the "gamey" human players, ultimately made the German garrison there stronger than it was historically: the real-world British, Norwegians, et. al. were able to recapture Narvik without ...

Seems to me it would make a lot more sense to redeploy a unit to a hex in its own country rather than just shifting it a couple of hexes in an unpredictable direction.

<t> Do a little research and you will find Strategic Command pretty much follows the real world script for the launch of Operation Barbarossa. The Russians were decimated at the outset as the Luftwaffe had a field day taking out enemy aircraft, troops and command & control centers . . . always nice ...

I put the fighters in ground mode only for the feeble purpose that they might not be discovered by some stray carrier passing by and subsequently pounced upon. Ground mode supposedly keeps their presence more "secret", but I'm not really sure about that. In any event, they have no ...

RE: Incomplete Turkish railroads

<t> The Turkish railways featured both narrow gauge and standard gauge; the line from Erzurum to Kars was actually narrow gauge and was upgraded to standard gauge in 1957. On a historical note, the German-Turkish Treaty of Friendship (1941) was to provide about 120 German locomotives and 1200 ...

Hi, Bill:

I would have posted a higher quality version of this map, but had to reduce the size and resolution owing to file size limitations on the forum ... I have a Photoshop version that's 30" x 15", a little over 1MB.

<r> Hi, Bill,<br/>
