RE: Getting started

<t> I found starting with GW easier in the end if you just want to practice. Guadalcanal is not easy to begin learning - I just stared at the screen - even though I watched all the videos. With GW the strategic objectives at the beginning are easily understood- Poland. Plus you get a bit of ...

RE: Question Re Starter Plane

Get rid of those Bolos! As noted above if they are in a US city you can send them to reserve. Don’t be tempted to send them oversees. Once allied US should probably send Mexican and Brazilian planes into reserve too.

RE: Vichy collapse and Japan naval invasions

And of course for new players the mantra is to remember that the actual invasion, like a paradrop, is a land action. There’s nothing as embarrassing as setting up a clever invasion and then selecting a Naval action by mistake (and then have the turn end !)

RE: convoy build points

<t> Also: I checked RAC and it is clearly stated that any active nation on the same side can share convoys for shipping resources.BPs are the same with a few minor additional restrictions. I don’t think it matters if there is a common foe or not. This has been my experience with MWIF. Having said ...

RE: Barbarossa timing ...

<t> Thanks - sorry offline for a bit. I’m guessing as Germany I’m putting way too much into the Atlantic wall. I find it’s late 41 at best to break the pact and the reason seems to be I’ve got too much in the west- I do try to send ‘2’ point garrisons but the point is I guess that the allies might ...

Barbarossa timing ...

<t> In my games it seems that the Germans can only break the pact with Russia later than I see in other players’ AARs . I haven’t done the math but I’m guessing Germany is being too conservative with keeping troops in the west or not putting enough higher point units on Garrison duty early enough ...

RE: Why can't this oil point be used

Yeah odd. I’ve had “stubborn” oil in the continental US before but just simply order it to the factory. If the oil in Maturin can reach the US maybe it has priority over the non-trade oil - but never heard of that before...?

RE: problem with saved file

<t> I had a problem not being able to open a saved game after a crash. In the end I went back to the most recent saved impulse I could open and just replayed it. In such cases don’t forget to “save as” the original file name, or a new name, otherwise it won’t be “fixed”.I once had trouble opening a ...

RE: Greece + Crete

<t> And so ... in current game actually, the request for Transylvania was denied so Germany could align Rumania as a full ally. However, Bulgaria will align with the soviets which will then protect them from a DOW by the standing neutrality pact. The axis will have to wait until the pact is broken ...

RE: Vichy collapse and Japan naval invasions

<t> When I first started I’d run into the “hey why can’t I invade” thing only to realize I had used too many land moves in a combined action. That and having troops on transports instead of AMPH or because of bad weather (storms)! Paradrops can have similar timing issues. <br/>

RE: Couple of Italy questions

<t> Italian NAV is a big threat early in the game I find. For CW I try to send a beaufighter down or whatever as well as base the CW carriers in Malta. Italian NAVs can make a mess of things. But yeah - the Italian navy is top notch. But it will eventually lose in trading punches with Royal Navy. I ...

RE: Greece + Crete

<t> That’s what I love about this game - just when you think you know what’s what....<br/>
Aligning Bulgaria for Axis or forcing an alignment with CW or France (which is brilliant) is fraught with timing issues - maybe the blunt DOW approach is the way to go if Axis really feel they need to go into ...

<t> Actually you’re right re oil near the end - I’ve never actually run short for US and Soviets but have been shocked to see reserves hit zero for both- a danger sign.<br/>
Plus CW needs oil - lots of it- when it’s fleet is active. As a rule of thumb allies send a minimum of 6 oil to CW if they ...

Build ahead

<t> As a new player it is a mystery as to what would make sense to build ahead. But after last game I’ve begun to realize that if the allies wish to improve their score they need to hit factories and oil hard and often. The one thing that is better than anything else to do this? The B-29! In the ...

RE: Greece + Crete

<t> I’ve only played once so far where Greece came into play- the catch 22 is that one can’t use Yugoslavia to attack Greece which means troops have to some in via sea where the CW and allies can cut-off supply. In the situation I noted aboveYugolslavia had already fallen. But all those pesky ...
