Ground support squads - What do they do?

<t> I see, it's an abstraction then. The game represents TOE very realistically, that's why i've asked.<br/>

One more question though, about vehicles in units, do these vehicles come from motor pool? again, in "road to leningrad" in turn 1 hq units have more vehicles than they need and ...

Ground support squads - What do they do?

<t> In manual it says support squads are "ground elements that provide the administrative and logistical backbone required for a unit to operate effectively". HQ units usually have as many as vehicles as they have support squads. why do they need these if they don't provide supply using these ...

WAD is working as designed. There are actually roads around the ridges of the Alps. If the scenario designer wanted to simulate the impassible ridgelines he should have included escarpments.

RE: A question regarding movement through mountain hexes etc

erm sorry but this will be a noobish question. what is WAD? (english is not my native lang) and (assuming the terrain effects chart is in the manual) i've checked the manual where does it assume there are trails/paths that can't be displayed or considered being roads? thanks in advance.

No, it doesn't have a mountain troops/icon ability. Here's a screenshot.

RE: A question regarding movement through mountain hexes etc

<t> I tested it on "Italian Front-Strafexpedition" which includes a Italian trucks-only transportation unit. It can move through mountain hexes. I'm just puzzled at this situation, I mean there is NO WAY a truck can move through a mountain if there's not a trail/path present if there was no road. Do ...

A question regarding movement through mountain hexes etc

<t> hey there, i have another question regarding movement points. maybe a bit pointless but i've been reading lots of stuff about how troops, supplies were deployed during ww2. so we know that in toaw troops equipped with trucks can move through mountain hexes, albeit slowly. but these troops seem ...

Supply question

<t> First of all, TOAW 4 is great. But I have a question about supply routes. We know that in WW2 supplies were delivered to the frontlines by using trucks, etc. So shouldn't cutting the roads (having one of our units on the road hex) be enough for cutting supplies eventhough there may be a non-road ...

These detached divisions may represent corps-army reserve formations, right?

Retreat direction

In manual it says that "a unit will retreat in the direction of the nearest cooperative hq or supply source". But I've seen some enemy units retreating in the opposite direction of their HQs, which were two hexes apart. Is there any logic behind this?

RE: A question regarding roadbound equipment and MPs

Yeah, 1 MP for roads/improved roads in SPWW2 is related to scale of the maps I guess as most of the maps is equal to one or two hexes of a TOAW map. Sorry for the late reply btw.

RE: Two up one back? - A question on deploying regiment/battalion

Well they also have AA and infantry squads in them most of the time. They may not move into the combat hex but they may still provide support nonetheless. Reviewing the combat logs would be give some insight I guess.

RE: A question regarding roadbound equipment and MPs

I know that I'm a bit obsessing but BTR 152 is also roadbound in the game while BA 20, an early Soviet armoured car is not roadbound. Is what I'm asking is pointless and stupid or is it just too much realism for a game?

RE: A question regarding roadbound equipment and MPs

Another example is Sdkfz 222, which is also modelled in the game. It has an on-road speed of 80 km/h, 40 km/h of off-road speed. At least vehicles like Sdkfz 222 should be roadbound. This would be more realistic.

RE: TOAW IV features

<t> As I've posted in the TOAW 3 forum;<br/>
<br/>
Sdkfz 251 has an maximum speed of 52 km/h on road but it's 21 km/h off-road. On open terrain its speed may be more than 21 km/h but most likely it'll still be less than 52 km/h. So I think it should cost more than 1 MP for moving through clear ...

Well, I think this is to simulate that off-road vehicules are moving with more ease than trucks.<br/>
You will find also that trucks are carrying much more than they could in really. <br/>

RE: Two up one back? - A question on deploying regiment/battalion

Thanks for the link. The rotation is especially useful in a WW1 scenario in my opinion. And HQ units may provide indirect fire in tactical reserve if they have extra artillery in them etc

A question regarding roadbound equipment and MPs

<t> I know that it costs 2 MPs for roadbound equipment such as trucks to move through open hexes in TOAW but armoured cars and vehicles like Sdkfz 251 spends only 1 MP moving through them. I know they have off-road capacity but their on-road speed is faster. Shouldn't this be simulated in the game ...
