The convenience of Steam auto-patching makes it the best way to go, imo.

I have tried putting the png file as described in the first post here but it doesn't seem to be working. I am using the Steam version of the game now, maybe that is the issue.

So I think I figured it out, I think even infantry need 2 landing craft per strength... I could invade after building even more craft. But it isn't 1 to 1 like described. None of the units I used were motorized or mechanized, or even armor.

Steam is probably the best avenue to buy games and keeping them updated. Seriously. Automated patching is no joke and is a world of difference between hunting down the latest package to manual patch.

I opened the scenario with Axis Japan as computer controlled and it appeared to do stuff on it's turn. So it seems it can be played single player.
