In case anyone else was interested, the answer is YES, the Shakturi fleet ships are mortal and kill-able when they spawn outside the rift. The only major challenge is you have to swat them fast, because they dont hang around and bug off for the rim instantly.

I hadn't given thought to messing up the scripting by doing something "unexpected" - that's a very valid point. I've seen absolute chaos caused (in other games) by breaking the scripts (intentionally or otherwise). I also hadn't thought about using the editor - that could be a way to just "see what ...

I thought I had seen a 1.0.8.4 note, but can't find it now. I agree that, especially in late game, the notification list is overwhelming. I've turned off several, but I need to do more. Some of them are even popping twice!
