RE: Desert War: The Monster Stack?

Never was a fan of the monster stack. I agree with FTW7 and think only showing the top unit is best. Maybe include an indicator on the unit shown for how many other units are in the hex for easy awareness.

RE: Desert War: What's Next?

I think Velikiye Luki at the battalion level would be best. Start in mid-November '42 till mid-January '43 with the Soviet objective of capturing the city while the Germans need to hold and relieve the garrison within the city.

To me Torch would be rather boring. Best to leave the desert and go to greener fields.

RE: Desert War: What's Next?

<t> Eastern Front late '42 would be best since the Soviets have found their feet and the Germans are no longer running over them. That is why Velikiye Luki is such a good battle to cover since the size is manageable and the Soviets are on the offense. It was know as the Stalingrad in the north but ...

RE: Desert War: What's Next?

Well you have to go East eventually and since the old classic V4V title Velikiye Luki was my first introduction to a WEGO pc game that would be my preference. It is small enough to be manageable while capturing all the intense Eastern Front goodness. Bulge is also a must and Arnhem as well.

RE: Close Air Support during night turns

Sounds good and that was my assumption. Loving the game. A real gem! I was quickly reminded during my Italian assault on Halfaya Pass last night why it was called Hellfire Pass![X(] Finally broke through the weak Commonwealth defense but it was not easy.

Close Air Support during night turns

Am wondering what the thought is on allowing this to occur. Is it reflecting the dusk and dawn of the night turn when some light would be available during the longer night turn?

RE: First impression anyone?

DW reminds me so much of Operation Crusader and that is a very good thing. The play seems very intuitive and once you get the mechanics in hand it is a joy to play. Just have to remember to assign Combat+ Supply to the critical HQ's each turn. DOH!

This all sounds excellent and DW seems likely to dethrone Operation Crusader as my favorite WWII operational game. Counting the days till release!

RE: Desert War release date

I am giddy! I haven't been this excited since the release of Operation Crusader back in the 90's. I hope I am not rash in saying that I think DW has a very good chance of unseating the reigning king of operational WWII war games.
