RE: 7th Flieger Division

<t> As it turned out this caused more harm than good, as a large portion of the Ju-52 fleet was involved in transferring those troops to and from Leningrad at the same time as Typhoon was running out of fuel. To allocate these aircraft to a secondary front when fuel was so desperately needed for the...

RE: German command capacity

<t> You just need to hold out until you can get the Army Group split, which can be as early as fall, 1941. Once that happens, you can fix this, with maybe some overload in spots. When I do it I can eliminate all overloading at Army Group level, but some remains at Army level. The Germans need an add...

RE: Where to Start for a Beginner?

<r> When I got the game I played Road to Minsk several times until I could gain a major victory, which I did on my third attempt. It takes a few runs to catch on I think. For example in your first run you won't properly judge the effect of enemy zones of control, and as a result your exploitation fo...

RE: OT: Distance between opposing fronts?

I don't think the OP is asking about frontage, but the distance between the opposing forces, the no man's land, which could be as close as a few feet, just on the other side of the rail embankment. I'd reckon the heavier the terrain the nearer the lines as a rule.

RE: Soviet OOB limit?

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>ORIGINAL: rob89<br/> <br/> I think it would be really curious if a simulation like WitE, in which the German OOB is rigidly defined until the last battalion, the Soviet could instead create units in anti-historical numbers.<br/> <br/> But that is the asymmetry that I never r...

I assign Kesselring as commander of Army Group B once AGS splits, usually replacing Halder, who gets cashiered at every opportunity.

RE: Black Cross Red Star Air War Over the Eastern Front: Volume 4 is out!

<r> That's interesting that the next one is coming out. I bought the first few volumes at the time Il-2 Sturmovik came out (2001-ish), as it was a must-have reference. TBH I wasn't impressed with the books aside from the marvelous color plates. The books were OK, and nice to have because they covere...

<t> I long ago decided to stop claiming which is best. It's too subjective. But I can say which are my favorites. And WitE is certainly near the top of that list. As great as it is I cannot reconcile some of the design decisions. Some things just aren't to my taste. <br/> <br/> My first computer war...

<r> I must have done a lot of other stuff then. And I did. Down to individual regiments and brigades being shifted around. What a massive undertaking, but I loved it. In the end I had each AG with two infantry armies and one panzer group, though AGN got shortchanged as I didn't have enough panzer co...

RE: noob help for starting 1941

How is it done for free? When the AGS split occurs I mean.

When I did it it cost around 200 points to eliminate overloading in the Wehrmacht, and that was just at AG level. Some remained even then at Army level.

RE: noob help for starting 1941

<t> Yes, FoW off lets you see all enemy counters. Perhaps that's going too far for some players, but since this is a first attempt I think it's a valuable teaching tool, showing the player how the AI goes about prosecuting the war. I found it so anyway. As I said, the game is better with FoW on of c...

RE: Most heroic and famous units in the east

My pleasure gents. Even now, having studied these action extensively, I find it difficult to imagine the sheer audacity and skill, and the overwhelming success the Ghost Division had in December of 1942. Against all odds really.

Balck won the Diamonds, and deservedly so.

RE: Most heroic and famous units in the east

<r> Here's an interesting piece on these battles by 11th Panzer. It details the battles and also the command and control, and communication of the leaders involved, including Balck. Not the sort of stuff we usually have easy access to on most battles.<br/> <br/> <URL url="https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/...
