RE: Questions for newer player

Pay attention to the information on the Tactical Operations Center screens for each turn. It will give you an overview of victory points and various other information that should help you make decisions along the way.

RE: getting around the delay.. possible?

<t> Have to confess that I have taken advantage of this more often than not. I'm certainly not an expert, but a lot of times the delay on that first waypoint seems incredibly aggressive to me. I understand that there may be situations where it makes sense, but sometimes it just seemed needlessly ...

Southern Storm... elevator pitch?

<t> I've not been on the forums long enough to have seen all the relevant Southern Storm content, I think. Is there a few-sentence-long overview or description as to the game's topic?<br/>
<br/>
I mean, I get the general idea, just looking for something a bit more specific about the content/topic ...

RE: Music while you play strategies

<r> I tend to enjoy post-WWII operational/tactical games. I've found a musician who makes what he calls "Stealth Music", which works pretty well as a subtle background while playing:<br/>

Movement % values on map

<t> What does a location's movement percentage reflect as far as actual movement in the game? Is it relative to an absolute, such as a value of 50% will mean that a unit can move at only half its effective speed? Or is it relative to the other hexes without a direct relationship to actual movement ...

RE: Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> One final addendum to this story. I've restarted and am playing through the opening set of moves with some tweaks to my initial setup based on what I've learned above. In particular, I restructured my ADA and Stinger units to provide much more even coverage up front with better infantry support ...

RE: Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> Update: 1347 Jul 23<br/>
<br/>
Not even one complete turn since my last update (12 minutes), and I got the "sudden death" pop-up informing me that enemy losses had exceeded 70% of their total force and giving me the option to stand fast and end the battle or press on. As my primary objective ...

RE: Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> Update: 1335 Jul 23<br/>
<br/>
Action has been building over the last 90 minutes; most of which has taken place within the last 30 or so (roughly 2x NATO command cycles). By now I think I can discern that the main enemy push is coming through the mostly open area between the central and ...

RE: Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> Update: 1204 Jul 23<br/>
<br/>
About 1 hour into the battle now. The swarming Hinds are making life miserable for my frontline infantry, B CO to the south in particular. They are starting to face low ammo and low morale issues, but it's hard for me to tell which is lower. Several tanks and ...

RE: Minutes to orders

Under the "Minutes to ____ Orders" display, the "elapsed" and "remaining" are formatted as HH:MM. So "2:35 elapsed, 4:55 remaining" would be 2h 35min into the scenario, with 4h 55min until the time limit is reached.

RE: Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> Okay, quick update from the front. As expected, my Recon troopers in the south had a great view into the enemy's initial position. Also as expected, there were approximately a metric crapton of Hinds hovering around there, just like wasps after you knock the nest down.<br/>

Needless to ...

Dawn's First Light -- NATO

<r> Inspired by some of the recent AARs shared here, I've decided to give this scenario a go. This will be my first "Medium" sized one in the game; in the hopes that I can improve my overall planning, adaptation, and perspective, I'm going to try to keep this thread updated as the scenario plays out ...

RE: Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm AAR on the Wargamer

I realize this thread is several years old, but it appears that the original link is no longer working. I found a forum post on the site that refers to it, albeit using a slightly different URL, but that one doesn't work either. Is there an updated one?

RE: How much planning?

Hi Mike, yes reading your AARs impressed me with the amount of forethought that you put into it. Do you find that you print out the materials, flip through the maps, and whatnot... or do you just scroll around on the game screen a bit until you get a sense for the layout?

RE: Victory conditions must be reforged

<r> It always feels a little game-y to me when I can pop a recon unit waaaaay back behind the enemy and just "touch" the VP hexes to boost my score, then have them scoot away. Obviously, they can just send another unit to go get them back, and I'll lose them at endgame if they have more units in the ...

RE: Victory conditions must be reforged

<t> I don't know about PBEM, but at least vs the AI you have the option to continue the game after the sudden death trigger if you like. I've done this on some occasions where the current victory was marginal or tactical, but I know within a short time I'd be in a great position to bump that up. Of ...
