RE: Dazo vs. 1775Cerberus

<r> The reports that are being smuggled out of brave Belgium are almost to atrocious to print in this newspaper. We warn those of the fairer sex and children to stop reading now. The barbaric warlords of Germany have allowed all discipline to be loosed so that the common soldier is no better than an...

RE: War of movement in 1914?

<t> I have seen pictures from the 1908 British Army summer maneuvers with troops entrenched. Granted the prados was on the wrong side, the trenches were laser line straight, and the troops were shoulder to shoulder; but they knew how to dig. The Russo-Japanese was features trench systems. The Boers ...

The U-Boat War Pt.1

<r> I thought that this would be of interest to the members on this board. The U tube channel "Drachinifel" has partnered with Michael Lowrey, the WW1 lead researcher on Uboat.net to do a two part episode. <br/> <br/> I have referenced him a couple of times on other threads. His three parter on Jutl...

<r> In the east Dazo has been aggressive with the AH army as the Russian forces have gathered. He has done an excellent job of fighting favorable battles which has hindered the build up a bit allowing the AH some breathing room before the inevitable steamroller.<br/> <br/> Part of that Russian build...

<r> And so it begins... The August 1 turn<br/> <br/> Dazo opens the first act of putting out the lamps across Europe by executing "the plan" with admirable precision that would make a Junker drill master titter with delight. RE: Logic behing ANZAC inflicting extra de-moralization

<t> This was one of Pershings fears in the use of American troops by the British. The "élan" of new "enthusiastic troops" would make them excellent "shock" troops. Also as a general observation, The "Dominion troops" were often commented on as "bigger and more fit" than the English troops, especiall...

Dazo vs. 1775Cerberus

<t> Dazo has kindly offered a PBEM game and I have gladly accepted. If you have not yet read his study of executing "the plan" in 1914 you should do so. Well written, explained, and illustrated. I personally agree with him in is conclusions. I added an addendum to his study in that thread. Long stor...

RE: Playing the Ottomans . . .

<t> I have always views securing the coasts and holding a Gaza-Dead Sea line to be the top priorities for the Ottomans. Then beginning to long game to 1917 where your economy should be built up enough to have a decently trained Army to stand against anything coming out of Egypt and counter attacking...

In my experience in MP, abandon them and focus on trying to not be driven completely into the mountains by winter. That means early focus on Entrenchment and infantry warfare.

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>ORIGINAL: stockwellpete<br/> <br/> I am a bit confused by the USA having a maximum of 4 artillery units. <t> My great-grandfather on my fathers side was one of the first Nazarene ministers in the American south. The small country church he helped buy still stands with his signature on the deed in the foyer of the church. This was 1912. In 1918 he had been granted two deferments because of being a minis...

RE: Trenches . . .

<t> The British were using prefab concrete to build machine gun positions and shelters in late 16. Dont let the levels of intrenchment make you think of concrete and not concrete. These levels of intrenchment are as much as doctrine and employment as they are the structures themselves. If the Britis...

RE: Trenches . . .

<t> It is a very deep subject that you have breached. (Pardon the puns.) There is not a definitive one size answer to your question as others have demonstrated. The Germans often speak in memoirs and after action reports of the troops in the "first line of trenches" fighting from connected shell cra...
