Re: New Public Beta - v1128 Live Now!

Is this update ready for play? I tried downloading about a year or so ago, and I found out that it wasn't ready despite it being released. Thanks!

Re: How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

It seemed like a quick and easy battle. Something to practice on without much fear of reprisal. Plus I was a little bored as there are few battles the Allied player can initiate early in the war to stop the Japanese expansion into the Pacific.

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

I have almost tied my personal game record of Apil 1942 in the grand campaign. However, I do find myself disappointed. This is no knock against AndyMac and the other designers who have done an amazing job with the resources available, but I find my frustration with the computer's actions against ...

Re: How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

I used a mix bag of ships for the assault. The transports were:

Marines- AP, xAP, xAK, and APD. Supporting CAx3, CL, APDx6
Army- AP, xAP, AK, and xAK. Supporting BB and DDx6

There is a Surface TF in the area to cover the landings, but I mistimed the invasion and my bombardment didn't happen ...

How Can I stop Shock Attacking?

Game date: 11APR 42

The first amphibious assault of my campaign is not going well. The AI captured Baker Island and I thought I could slip in and take it back. Long story short, I didn't time things out very well and I am now stuck in the mud. To the attack I committed:

-2nd Marine Regiment
-249th ...

Re: First Carrier Battle: 2v1=Draw?

I'm also glad that the carriers weren't more damaged. Given the numbers, I figured one of both would have received a bomb hit. I think it was their weak escort along with my stronger CAP that helped.

First Carrier Battle: 2v1=Draw?

I'm not sure what to think about this unexpected battle while the Japanese attempt to secure their position on baker Island:

Game difficulty: Hard

March 22, 1942
Enterprise and Yorktown vs Shokaku range, about 3 hexs.

Japanese attack first:
A6M2 Zero x5
B5N2 Kate x22
D3A1 Val x25

Results: One ...

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

How does the scripting work? Is it "attack Port Morsby at all costs until captured?" or more like ships A, B, and C will attack Port Morsby but if they are damaged, sunk, or forced to withdraw, then nothing will ever attack Port Morsby again? Or maybe if X amount of ships or troops are lost ...

Re: Creating Steady Supply

Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that ship endurance between UK, US, and Cape Town doesn't matter as the ship's refueling between the bases is abstracted. Is that true or wishful thinking? So if my 11000 endurance cargo ship can't make it to Cape Town and back, resulting in ...

Creating Steady Supply

One aspect of the game I am struggling with is creating a steady supply for Australia. Cape Town is awesome as the route is fairly safe (at least against the AI) whereas California seems to be longer with a constant threat of attack from beginning to end. I am still early in the war (mid-March '42 ...

I switched my monitors to the nightlight mode. I don't care for the red hue, but it has made things easier on the eyes.

I think my eyes are getting older

As I have been getting back into the game, I have found that the screen is really starting to strain the eyes. I don't wear glasses, but I notice that if I spend too long playing I can really feel it. I don't know if its the size two font, the fact that the screen jumps around on replays, the map ...

I thought ships could only be withdrawn from Karachi or San Francisco.

One more question. Once I am happy with my pilot's skill, should I release them to the group, reserve, or active?

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

I just remembered something. Didn't AndyMac do some additional work on the AI scripting? I thought there used to be a list if scenarios where there were multiple AI options that would be randomly selected when the scenario was first loaded. Do those files still exist?

Re: Is the AI too dumb?

I have had this game for probably over 10 years and I always think "this time I will actually play through the campaign." I like the fact that production is set, and everything is reinforced. So I don't have to worry about saving money to buy a carrier or 40 destroyers. The only thing that has ...

Is the AI too dumb?

I have been wondering, is the AI too dumb or perhaps too limited? I am playing the Dec 8th campaign and noticed in the tracker that I had killed the Zuikaku with a mine in Singapore. I thought that was very odd and switch over to the Japanese side and saw that it was damaged, but not sunk. Damaging ...

Re: Pilot Question

I can confirm his name was yellow and retain was not on. However, I guess my game heard about my post because I was finally able to get him to TRACOM. I'm uncertain as to what changed. Perhaps is was having more pilots in the squardon.

Pilot Question

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I have two questions.

1. Why can't I move my 81 Exp pilot to TRACOM? He is in a P-40 squadron I moved from the Philippians to Darwin Australia, but all I can do is make him inactive in the group. I also changed the HQ to the South Pacific.

2. Pilot ...
