Re: Saving ACW

I really appreciate your willingness to consider new ideas BNC. You are one of the major factors that make ACW a great game.

Here's some of my ideas in response to your comments:

R e the CS, I don't know about 1862, but those volunteers did get raised in 1863 just before Gettysburg, which is what ...

Saving ACW

The 1861 Blue & Gray campaign, the scenario most people play, has developed into a boring sitzkrieg in which the Union is overwhelmingly favored to win. This is coming from someone who really likes ACW. The game provides wonderful gameplay and creative innovations. Like cavalry sweeps. Wow, what a ...

Re: What am I missing?

Don't feel bad about your post steevodeevo. I don't think your post is negative at all. You're just pointing out a major issue with the game.

I too love the Strategic Command series. I think I got over a 1,000 hours into WaW. And I still learn something new every time I play it. And the developers ...

Re: Turkey diplomacy not moving

Noob here. Playing PBEM game and I am Allies currently around late 1940. I've got enough chits invested in Turkey so it is 35% chance for probably 6+ turns, but it has not moved from "Axis 0%". Any particular reason?

Hey Nginear, I ran into the same situation when I was new to WaW. Really ...

Re: Unit costings

I was surprised to hear that some CSA players are running out of units to buy. That's not been my experience. As a Union player I'm on total offense by the end of 62, both land and sea, with losses on both sides chewing through all available MPPs. For me that's more fun, but I know in ACW that's not ...

I followed the same procedure as with v1.02 and the process worked well. Go to My Page and click on the Update button.

Interesting that Steam is not automatically updating the game. Perhaps because I bought it direct from Matrix.

Hi Beriand, I would be glad to accept your challenge. I'm excited to see the changes for version 1.03. I'm sure the developers have implemented some cool ideas.

I have more experience as CSA so I'll take that side in 1861 Blue&Gray.

Looking forward to a fun game.

Re: Fort Modernization - Fort Pulaski

I used Bragg because he appears there anyway. And Platoonist is right, you got to have the HQ as close as he indicated to provide adequate supply. I tried the hexes to the north and northwest and neither worked.

So it is possible to upgrade Fort Pulaski with an HQ? I thought it was not ...

Re: Fort Modernization - Fort Pulaski

I used Bragg to upgrade Fort Jackson because he appears in New Orleans anyway. And Platoonist is right, you got to have the HQ as close as he indicated to provide adequate supply. During an MP game I placed the HQ on multiple hexes attempting to upgrade the fort and the hex that Platoonist showed is ...

Re: Unit Stacking

Stacking is something we thought about long and hard when we decided to do a game on the ACW. Reason we didn't end up going through with it is simply that after doing a few tests, it didn't really feel like something that was necessary to add.

For better and for worse, SC has never had stacking ...

Re: Command Range

The hex southeast of Frederick also marked with an X, does appear to have the HQ range highlight there, but it also appears to show a reddish highlighted hex there as well which almost hides the HQ range highlight.

At least that is what it looks like to me from the screenshot.

Isn't that the ...

Re: Are riverboats too powerful?

Well, I would also recommend +/- such changes (although bit lower), but I'm not sure it works as You think it works :P Defence values on units influence losses of the attacker, not of the defender; increasing defence of units hurts attacking gunboats, but they do all the same damage to their ...

Re: Command Range

Thanks Platoonist, perhaps you are right, the zone of control, even when weak, appears to affect command range.

However, there's some inconsistencies. For example the command range reaches through the forest hex within the weak zone of control and reaches the hex below the armored train with the ...

I may be missing something but is there a reason that Banks command range does not reach the two units marked with X? No units have moved and the weather is clear.

Probably a simple explanation but I can't see it.

Unit Stacking

Perhaps the most significant weakness of the Strategic Command series is the lack of unit stacking. Allowing some units to stack would reduce management of the traffic jam of units in a crowded battlefield and would bring artillery into the game making Civil War battles more exciting.

I've brought ...

Re: Luka MS

So you think it makes sense that the fort south of Richmond is on a river so that gunboats can reduce an HQ in the only logical spot for an HQ and I guess the gunboats can eliminate the Division in Richmond. So gunboats eliminating the Division in the capital is ok?

I don't have any Navy left he ...

Re: Luka MS

I ask this because there's only a very limited number of things I can do here (at least without radically altering the game, which isn't on the cards right now), and one of them would be to reduce the gunboats' Infantry Attack stat from 2 to 1 - their cavalry attack stat is already 1. I have ...

Re: Iuka MS

Yes it was thanks for the lesson, from a game perspective this makes no sense. So now the South also has to have units protecting the rail line along the Tennessee.

Protecting the rail line through Tennessee does make military sense. I've done that from the start, even against the AI. Blocking ...
