Re: Weather Effects

Based on the lack of response, I'm guessing that nobody knows if weather effects are cumulative or not. The issue is relatively important especially in Russia where I typically get hit with a combination of snow and frozen. It would be great if the developers could provide guidance on this subject.

Re: wevilc (allies) v Old_Shane (axis

Excellent AAR wevilc. And, wow, great campaign. I've never seen the Japanese Empire so strong. You and Shane both deserve a win.

So, if I understand correctly, the victory conditions in the Strategy Guide are incorrect. The Axis wins a tactical victory if either Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, or Seoul have ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

New ELO game begins:

phenix_slith (Allies) vs LoneRunner (Axis)

Hi firsteds.
Please remove the above game between phenix_slith and I from the ELO list. It's been over two weeks since phenix submitted a move and he hasn't responded to my PMs. Hopefully he is okay. He seemed concerned that I ...

Firsteds (Axis) Winner vs kjgokc2007 (Allies)

Firsteds used 3 German Airborne units and early research for German Amph. Assault to invade England early next to impossible to stop. This game needs to be updated to stop this type of attack.

I don't believe its possible to build 3 ...

Weather Effects

Does anyone know if weather effects on combat are cumulative? For example, with snow and frozen. Are attack values halved for frozen and then halved again for snow? That would result in units attacking at 25% on frozen ground in a snow storm.

Also, are weather effects based on the hex attacked into ...

"Japan declares war on the United States and the Allies. Like a grandmaster executing an opening rehearsed a thousand times, Petedalby unleashes his offensive in flawless choreography. The elegance of the operation is so striking that I watch the replay three times in disbelief. One after another ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Excellent AAR Taifun. I loved your descriptions of the battles and campaigns. You really made the war come alive with intense commentary, maps, and charts. And wow, what a sense of humor. I laughed out loud with your Operation Peperoni. Thank you for entertaining and educating us with an AAR that I ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament

New ELO game begins:

phenix_slith (Allies) vs LoneRunner (Axis)

We are using the following house rules:

1. No diplo on Majors
2. No Barbarossa before 1941
3. No diplo on Bulgaria
4. No Allied DoW on Japan until US is at 100% mobilization
5. No Italian navy outside Med before DoW
6. No using ...

Hi phenix_slith. I'm available for a game. The standard ELO house rules are good for me. If you create a game and PM me the password I'll join.

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Wow, pretty exciting. I really like your use of the strategic map to show the progression of the entire war. You and Pete are demonstrating why you both are masters of this game.

The supply situation for the German units attacking Karachi must be terrible. Supply would be worse if a strategic ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Petedalby was extremely fortunate with his technological development in armored warfare. He achieved three breakthrough hits in Advanced Tanks research, allowing him to reach Advanced Tanks Level 2 as early as August 1940 and Level 3 by July 1941. This is both extraordinarily rare and enormously ...

Re: Looking for a 1st ELO game

Make sure that you or Jonny25K posts your game start in the ELO Tournament thread. You usually do that near when the game begins, otherwise it may not be considered ELO. In the thread you'll find that Firsteds provides a format for posting a new game and then posting the results of the game.

Hi Jomppexx. Welcome to World at War. I'm glad you could join us. You'll find the World at War group to be friendly and helpful. And it's pretty easy to find an opponent.

World at War is one of my favorite games. It feels simple at first but the more you know about the game, the more you know you ...

Re: Looking for a 1st ELO game

Hi Gronivaure, welcome to the World at War ELO. I'm glad you could join us. Do you have a lot of experience with World at War and the Matrix forums?

XP farming is where you constantly bombard an empty coast town with a battleship or carrier in order to accumulate experience. It's a slow process ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

This is the point at which I would love to see your evaluation of the merits of an Afrika Korps campaign. Is it worth it? Most of the top World at War players recommend that the Germans invade North Africa but I always wonder why.

Certainly Pete has conducted an excellent campaign. He severely ...

Question on #4: What exactly is 'PH' in this context? Is it historical, i.e. 'no Allied DoW before December 7, 1941'? Or is it some ambiguous timing based on when Japan eventually strikes? I've assumed this is historical but wanted to confirm with ...

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Pete's response to the strong Amiens defense was excellent. Attack the softest point in the defense, which is usually the French. UK can't cover the entire defensive line so if you eliminate the French units, like Pete did, British units have got to retreat.

Re: AAR -Petedalby (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)

Umeu makes a good point. With competing demands of navy upgrades, technology development, and army and air unit reinforcements, UK is desperate for MPPs at this point. Building two anti-tank and three anti-air units is a pretty big investment. I'm guessing that navy upgrades are on hold and maybe ...
