Re: Transitioning to WITE-2 Red Army?

Okay, I just read 37.5 Build New Unit Screen. Very interesting indeed.

What is the rational for allowing USSR player to build units as opposed to simply being assigned historically units as arrivals?

As arrivals seems to be the approach for WITW and WITE-2 Axis.

Thanks.

I can think of a few ...

Re: Soviet New Unit Production should have more build-ups

What exactly is the idea behind the soviets being able to create units while the germans cant?

Because OKH didn't make any, (this came up in WiTE1)

Don't all the German dead come back throughout the game?

That's bollocks.

OKH created a bucket of units.
Just they're scheduled and ...

Re: Artillery in Combat

Yeah, not critiquing exactly that "Soviet artillery does nothing", as I have other similar battles (see below) where we win after deploying massive amounts of artillery, but rather that it is very hard for me to see what exactly the artillery is doing.

Re: Artillery in Combat

Yeah, but I also get battles like this where we had 25x as much artillery as the Germans, 20:1 men, and almost 300 tanks and we took massive losses without being able to get a retreat.

I guess it must be related to morale/xp still being low in 1942, as similar battles to this in 1943 ...

Re: Artillery in Combat

I honestly really can't tell what artillery does in combat, even looking at the battle details seems to show my (as Soviets) artillery getting very few "hits".

However, while it is very opaque to me what artillery is doing exactly, I find that battles with initially even cv turn into 2:1 ...

Re: The Leningrad Unicorn

I actually have the "historical" result on the Leningrad front most games I play as the USSR vs AI (at 125 morale). Possibly because the AI's 125 morale bonus lets it smash through the Schlisselburg corridor, and for whatever reason the AI doesn't prioritize very hard pushing over the Neva.

AlbertN thank you for your response - I was looking for guides or examples, not answers or a golden bible.
Learning in isolation only goes so far, both in games and real life.
Further to that what's the point of a forum if not to share experience and combine it with your own?
Anyway I digress and ...

Re: Soviet New Unit Production should have more build-ups

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good guide on what to build as the soviets and why?

I'm play a GC at the moment as Soviets and cant tell if I should build things 'because I can' or if i should build particular units for particular strategies or situations. Or even if I'm simply over ...

Re: Soviet New Unit Production should have more build-ups

Something else I was considering was that the basic Artillery division (not the breakthrough division) should be able to attach artillery brigades as support units. My understanding is that most of the original artillery divisions were updated to the breakthrough artillery TOE, but WiTE doesn't ...

Re: Soviet New Unit Production should have more build-ups

ALBEIT! I say that with reservation - as I've not tested it at all - maybe a fresh create Brigade at 0 TOE or low ToE can get mergings of Battallions for instance, confluxing their trained personnel into it?

But in front of other type of problems - and considering the type of effort in terms of ...

Soviet New Unit Production should have more build-ups

A pretty typical scenario for me playing as the Soviets:
1942--I have a few hundred AT regiments, separate artillery regiments, rocket battalions and so on.
1943--Artillery brigades & divisions, rocket brigades & divisions and AT brigades become available, and I want to build most of those to close ...

ML 20 replacing 203 and 280 mm in high power artillery support units

In my current game on version 1.02.25, I've found it impossible to use any of the Soviet stockpiles of 203 and 280 mm guns. The formations that use those ground elements (BM howitzer regiment and high power artillery battalion) prefer to equip themselves with ML 20s if both ML 20s and the 203/280 ...

RE: Non-overlapping build dates for USSR new unit formation

<r> Well, the issue that I am describing is simply that on 31st January 1943, you do not have the option to build the units described in the original post. The forum doesn't allow me to post a link to the imgur album I made of this.<br/>

Maybe the issue could be that if an OB is available ...
