Re: Minefields, logistics and scenarios

...logistics might freighten away some players I guess, I do like extreme realism and getting logistics to work in battle would be a great thing, but I guess it is to much for the mayority of players!

Even in its abstract form, logistics has a significant effect on play, especially when it ...

Re: ATGM more effective than tank gun

At that sort of range, the ATGM should have a better hit probability than the gun -- the missile's under guidance all the way out. Against tanks, it should have better damage probability, too. Since HEAT rounds work essentially the way described above, their probability of damage is pretty much ...

Re: Nuclear War Simulator Featured in Scientific American

Not sure why Matrix Games thinks this is such a feather in their caps.

Because the model's readily available and easy for a non-expert to use, so anyone wishing to test the assumptions of the study and the model can do so. That's much better than "trust us", regardless of which side you're on ...

Re: A10 a wee bit over-powerful?

Expect attackers to hide behind terrain. Fly around or between hills rather than over them. Skim over ridgelines and get down into valleys. Position your short-range ADA to catch them at it. Your long-range SAMs -- SA-6s & SA-4s -- may end up on hilltops to give them some visibilty, but they're ...

Multiplayer access

Sometime in the last 12 hours, the PBEM server decided my version of the game is incompatible with the server. It was running fine before, and just to be sure, I reinstalled the latest version...no luck, it still won't let me in. Fairly annoying in the middle of a tournament.

Expand that same issue to the last scenario, "Prokhorovka". Didn't go through multiple tries from both sides this time, but playing the Axis first turn, the symptoms were identical. Updated log file attached.

11th Panzer scenario crash

When playing against the AI, the scenario "11th Panzer Division Advances" consistently crashes somewhere between the AI player's first turn and the human player's second turn. The game abruptly closes, with no warning or error message. Playing from the last saved point doesn't help. I've played ...

Re: Should the game offer a "fast-paced mode"?

The full TOC experience comes with a staff to deal with all those ugly details, though. Part of the difficulty of most unmoderated wargames is the "commander" has to be his own staff -- the more details you add, the more the play shifts from "command" to "staff work", and the game becomes less fun ...

Re: Should the game offer a "fast-paced mode"?

Oh, yes! Not necessarily because you can't talk to anyone (although that happens sometimes), but because it takes 40 minutes...or an hour...or more...to get a clear enough picture to figure out what you want to do next and issue coherent orders. What we see on the map display is far and away more ...

Re: The immortal and unbreakable last infantry man

When you think about it, though, the game does a pretty good job of that already. If you're looking at a Blue unit, it's already making decisions based on its SOPs, morale, readiness, and supply status. If it's still on the board, it's still capable of organized action, although it may not respond ...

Re: A10 a wee bit over-powerful?

Without knowing how the team modeled the Shilka and the SA-9, the AD performance doesn't seem to be out of line. You actually did the ADA a disservice by placing it higher than the targets it defended. Both systems are subject to ground clutter at low elevation angles -- the Shilka because of the ...

Has this been fixed yet? Trying to evaluate the Canadian campaign (which plays rather interesting so far), but can't get past this issue. (If not, no worries...just didn't want to miss something easy.)

Re: 6839 Pathing

With all that in mind, is there some movement logic that needs modification? Amphibious crossings, even with amphibious vehicles, aren't spur of the moment operations. That goes double for big European rivers flowing through urban or developed areas. River banks there are often steep (or lined with ...

You're actually playing the sceanario from both sides simultaneously, so it's like two games...one as the Allied side, one as the Axis. Play 'em both.

Re: 2 inch mortar

WWII-era AFVs, especially early in the war, were pretty thin on top, and what armor there was often was pierced by vents and hatches. In fact, many armored cars, tank destroyers, and troop carriers were completely open-top, so even a light mortar round in the wrong place could be catastrophic. This ...

Load a U.S. airborne unit via the island airfield at the top of the map, fly them over and drop on/next to the bridge.
