Re: First GC game as USSR...any advice?

I have only played one game as Soviets in GC but my general notes during the retreat in 41 are:

* Use terrain to your advantage, your units are really terrible and the only way to slow the advance is to defend in depth and slowly retreat backwards. Any river/swamp/wood should be where you place ...

Re: First GC game as USSR...any advice?

Soviets are very easy to play as. Once you know how to play with Soviets (supply priority 4 for everything from turn 1 for example), even in PvP you'll likely win all games in 1941 (or very early 1942).

Interesting! Thanks. That’s very helpful. Since I wasn’t able to win as Axis under normal ...

First GC game as USSR...any advice?

Hey everyone,

Looking to try my first GC campaign with the soviets. Have previously played as the Axis and...well, I had fun but probably still have a lot to learn in this game :D. Basically stalled out in the summer of '42.

Anyway, looking forward to trying a campaign with the soviets. I've read ...

Re: Puzzled by why Air Armies aren't moving

Thanks! Okay - sounds like I’m not doing anything too awfully wrong. Let me see if this issue doesn’t resolve over time.

While I have you…. :)

My TOE has just gotten decimated in this game (Vistula to berline) playing as Soviets. I’ve been resting and gaining CPP back up, and just sort of assumed ...

Re: Puzzled by why Air Armies aren't moving

Thanks Wiedrock! Yeah I think I’m doing that - I have them on advance and am moving the army HQ up. Let me know if you think any other things may be holding it up!

Puzzled by why Air Armies aren't moving

Hi everyone,

Relatively new player here working through my first game with mixed manual/AI control of the air. Also my first campaign game (Vistula to Berlin), so it's been a very helpful learning experience.

I have a reasonably simple question and I'm embarrassed that I can't seem to find the ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Awesome. I have actually been afraid of trying the big campaigns until I did most of the smaller scenarios, so that's good to know :D

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Thanks TallBlondJohn! Your help has been massively valuable.

Those are good tips to remember. I just completed the Destruction of the SW front scenario and logged a minor victory with 1.5 - 1 ratio on my first go, which felt solid. Very useful to understand how to leverage SUs to help conquer ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Thanks TallBlondJohn! Those are great tips and made a difference. On my third run-through, I scored myself a minor victory but with a performance that I feel reasonably solid about. https://imgur.com/a/KKlYqzC .

I think the most important learnings for me were:

-Ignoring the VPs in the east and ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Upon further reflection I think I probably can also sharpen my hex-flipping skills. I keep looking at your screenshots and thinking “how the heck did they get that far!?”

Generally speaking I try to:
1. Attack with infantry first to break through, starting with my infantry units furthest behind the ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Wow! That is some good progress by end of T5. Here is where I was at the start of turn 6, so just a little behind. https://imgur.com/a/9Cgza7H

Thanks FortTell - that answers my question very well about the river and makes sense. Thank you!

TallBlondJohn and Jango32, thank you for the wisdom and ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

Thanks everyone!

GOOD news: I secured an Axis minor victory.

Bad news: As you can see linked here: https://imgur.com/a/j7y3Ocz , it was more of a technical victory than anything else, as my lines were totally falling apart and many units were isolated (see northeast)! That photo actually makes ...

Re: Figuring out Leningrad

I believe the Road to Leningrad scenario plays the same as AGN in '41 GC. Essentially, it's a matter of speed. Daugavpils and Vilnius by turn 1, either take Pskov on turn 2 or be in a position to take Pskov on turn 3, advance to the Plyussa river line on turn 3, cross the Luga river on turn 4 or ...

Figuring out Leningrad

Hey everyone,

New player here enjoying my first run at these scenarios. I really appreciated the tips on my other thread, so was hoping to get a little more advice :)

I had a great time with my first playthrough of Road to Leningrad. Having first scored a slight loss, I then re-did my last few ...

Re: New player with some questions after Velikiye Luki

First, all you need to note down what percentages - or better , actual values in Supply/Fuel/Ammo you started from, since when the TOE - so the Elements of the Division get increased/lowered/exchanged, the percentages will vary due to reinforcements. Reinforcements will increase the "need" of ...

New player with some questions after Velikiye Luki

Hey everyone,

New player here with very limited experience in wargaming...I am enjoying the learning curve and am determined to figure out the game!

Having just played/won the Velikiye Luki scenario from both sides, I would really appreciate input on a few questions that I have. Any feedback would ...

Re: New player - questions about bootcamp

Brilliant - phew! OK problem solved.

This is a great scenario! Everything was going swimmingly (although I was a little behind) up until the VC ambushes on the route back. I might have to try again...

One puzzling error I am getting is that as I try to load one of the civilians into the trucks, it ...

Re: New player - questions about bootcamp

Great! I will do that, and that's helpful to know about double time.

Okay here I am in Bootcamp 4 and if you hadn't lost patience with me yet...this one may get you.

How can I get these labels to display? They seem to be off by default, and hitting ` or Alt-1 doesn't turn them on. I can see the ...

Re: New player - questions about bootcamp

Thanks! That solved it. Love that show organization button.

I have just finished Bootcamp 3...and scored a Minor Defeat. And as you can expect...a few more questions came up :) Any advice on these would be super helpful!

1. I can't say I understand why I lost the scenario. I followed all the ...
