Re: The Thrilla on the Dnepr - a '41 GC

I wasn't 100% sure that would create a pocket at Perekop. When i hovered over Perekop hex and the hex directly east to it, it did look like it was "Impassable" terrain. I've been trapped previously near Kherson from impassable terrain (was one of my soviet games vs you).

Stamb - are you using the air HQs to counter herding? (Ie are losses from being displaced or behind the frontlines)

Outstanding feat to reach Orel - Kursk - Rostov line in 1941 ... i never made it
Most 41 games end up there (although usually short of Rostov as harder to hold)

Re: Non combat attrition (i.e. my army is melting away)

There's no issue here. Most of that is from damaged elements being sent back to the pool. Some manpower goes directly to the active pool with the rest going to the disabled pool.

Even if you have a turn without combat, your units still have 25% of their damaged elements going back to the pool each ...

Re: Saves to show off grinding

Regarding the Beethoven save, i don't think that turn represents a "typical" turn that can be repeated as the game goes on. +100k soviet losses in 41 is fairly achievable though.

In this game, there was heavy contact across most of the line (other than the far south) and Axis infantry was only ...

More useful was my recon in the south, which confirmed that the FBD is indeed heading south towards Kovel/Rovno. This proves to be very helpful intelligence.
Very smart play with the scouting possible FBD turn 1 locations! I think i'll borrow that going forward - thanks :)

Re: How to counter grinding tactics

Now that our game is over, i can post on the topic.

A lot of what Beethoven said works to some extent but i don't think you can ever stop moto/panzer follow up attacks on retreated units. Where you do have more influence to counter it is in how you position your defence to make it difficult to herd ...

Re: NA divisions disappear contradicting transfer info

Hi folks,

In my StB game with latest official -not beta- patch, North Africa forces surrender on turn 27. As you can see in the screenshot below, two panzer divisions were scheduled to transfer to Italy and WE, but they too appear on the list of destroyed units. If I could postpone the surrender ...

So what are you all going to propose to Joel Billings on the fix? If Joel thinks it needs it. I see all the chit-chat back and forth but nothing else.

Imo Joel should tell if they, dev team, are willing to apply a fix that community might develop. If not then it is a waste of time and better ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

I would just point out that Model with a lot pioniers and artillery marching on Leningrad is as old as WiTE1. Same with Manstein. The 210mm Howitzer Battalions at 90 experience get some extremely high HPE values, leaving a lot of disrupted Soviet ground elements in their wake.

I don't ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

Yeah, I agree that grinding is a very dispiriting experience and counters much of the enjoyment that I gain from this game. Here is an example of my GC game as soviets versus Vet.

Re: No resupply to an airbase co-located with a depot of 42k supply

Not sure. There’s also the logistic rule that under 3 hexes shouldn’t need any trucks at all too.

Perhaps it’s the isolated mechanic alone that stops resupply.

To resupply it uses trucks from your pool. Is it possible that because your isolated the routine cannot run as there is no access to the pool?

imo few problems with a current system:
1. retreat priorities
2. damaged elements do not contribute to CV (never tested it myself, but many say that it works like that and based on my experience it seems to be true)
3. CPP loss that is counted only by final CV which is easy to achieve ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

I think the losses on heavy Soviet routs could be a little lower but any changes would need to be carefully thought out for balance over a longer game. There isn't much experience in the +43 and beyond and i suspect Soviets can just as easily inflict losses on Axis late game. Perhaps limiting loss ...

Re: The Rumble in the Tundra, a Vet (Sov) JB (Axis) rematch

I think that the strength of 'modern' openings and the devastating wrought by panzers hitting retreated Soviets results in the game balance favouring the Axis (assuming both players know what they is doing)

I would agree with this statement. I try and verse strong opponents and in the last ...

I also don't see any ADs set up in the h save.

I decided to clear them before uploading, as I always leave my directives to default and don't mess with them. I figured more experienced players would have cleared them and set up their own.

Anyway, I have set up default ones which do 2 ground ...
