Solomons 1942

I put a challenge up with no password. I'd like to play as the U.S., but I could be talked into playing as the Japanese.

I haven't played this game much. About 7 turns in against the computer. I think I understand most of the game play mechanics.

Re: Are riverboats too powerful?

I think it's fine to just reduce the land attack of gunboats to 1, they'll still tear forts apart and allow for Lrat invasions so gaining river control is very meaningful. They could be given something like 2-3 demoralization to compensate since damaging the readiness of the land unit rather ...

Re: Infantry Weapons Tech Discussion

I wonder if it might make sense for the second chit to offer a diminishing return. Say 50% of the value of the first chit.

If you try to throw too much money at a problem, you start to encounter diminishing returns. It might be worth it just to get that little extra push, but you'd want to think ...

Re: Toggle the units

Similar to the above post, I've hacked the "next unit" feature to work better for me as follows:

Set all non-front-line fortifications to sleep. I want to be sure to check out the fortifications which are likely to have been attacked. The rest, I'd prefer to ignore.

For armies which have a HQ, set ...

marine reinforcement in enemy territory

I noticed that marines can be reinforced when surrounded in enemy territory and without access to any towns or cities. This happened in the vicinity of New Orleans. N.O. had not been captured. There were no sources of supply other than the coast, which seems to be where marines draw their supply ...

Re: Destroying the CSA again

I'm playing CSA v1.01 and clobbering my Union opponent.
Still....v1.03 (when it comes) would of made things easier. Hell, v1.02 would of been a boon with getting Longstreet and 300 MMP extra.
I would have to say I'm using every trick in the book to keeping my head outa the Federals nooses. ❌

I ...

Re: Destroying the CSA again

I agree with battlevonwar regarding Garibaldi being OP (overpowered). I probably wouldn't play another full campaign with the Garibaldi scripts enabled. In reality, the first couple of years in the east was one ass-kicking after another for the slow and incompetent union generals. It's difficult for ...

Re: Destroying the CSA again

I was his opponent. I tried a tactic which is very effective against the AI, which is to spam brigades. You can build more brigades than the build limit if you spam them before the scripted brigades spawn. I don't know if this is a bug, but you can build a ton of brigades. Brigades build faster than ...

Re: What am I missing?

Just remember something the South doesn't really have to defend Richmond forever(nor should they) as it's a losing location. The James and Norfolk-Fort Monroe make Richmond a given for the North to take.

You can relocate further South where the Supply is abysmal for the North and they will ...

The strength of Fort Fisher led to its being called the Southern Gibraltar and the "Malakoff Tower of the South". The battle of Fort Fisher was the most decisive battle of the Civil War fought in North Carolina.

Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah and the Island of Fort Pulaski cutting the Port is broken, Jacksonville is also broken it doesn't need to be assaulted at all, the Forts on Norfolk and Wilmington make them virtually a given to take cause you have to post around them rather than a direct assault which ...

I think you can't upgrade if units are adjacent?

Re: Weak Forts in Key Southern Cities

My opponent just landed a unit of Union marines (I think it's a regiment, but fights more on par with a division) east of Wilmington, and it immediately marched west above a CSA brigade (cutting it off from supply) and attacked the fort at Wilmington. The marines were +2 infantry equipment. The fort ...

Re: Selling cotton immediately

I have only sold immediately. My strategy as CSA is to hit the Union with everything I've got.

But, I didn't realize how much I was giving up by selling right away. I will probably try not selling to see how I fare.

Now, can I do over my first turn? I think I ...

During the battle of Pearidge I believe it was The CSA Units showed up to the fight with muskets at times. The Indians that fought weren't really meant for frontline service. They didn't have the same style of fighting... Under 7500 Native Americans fought in the Civil War to give scale. I have a ...

Proper use of HQs

I'm just starting to understand how to use HQs properly (auto-assist or manual mode). It seems like you need to decide which units they will support at the beginning of your turn, detach and attach as needed, and then proceed with your turn. Once a unit which is attached to an HQ has moved or ...
