Re: Naval and Defense News

Today news is that not only the Patriot system shot down one or several Kinzhals, but that it was also used vs one or several Russian aircrafts in Russian territory (Bryansk).

A good mine a bad game. The Patriot was definitely hit during the recent raid. The extent of the hit is debatable. But ...

Did I understand you correctly that missiles lose speed because of maneuvers? Because I tried firing the same missile at a non-maneuvering B-52 and the missiles hit it at a range of over 100 nm.

S-400 fires on Su-27 at distance about 70 nm. Aircraft at an altitude of 3600 meters. Does not maneuver. The aircraft turns and flies away from the missiles. The missiles are chasing him. At a distance of 80-85 mm from the SAM, the speed of the missiles is 400-600 knots ...

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

The same article, which is a good summary, mentions the Russians are planning to use freed up forces for ill advised and poorly coordinated "offensives" to the north of the Kherson area. Instead of placing their conscripts into defensive positions, they are being going to be fed piecemeal into a ...

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

Just want to point out that the reason for retreating from Kherson was not due to political reasons, but due to logistical failures compounded by Ukrainian rocket strikes on Russian supply lines and supply depots

From the Institute for the Study of War: "The UAF developed a tactic to...conduct ...

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

My only comment on Kherson is the lack of Moscows ability to make up a better excuse for the death of Kirill Stremousov, the Russian-installed deputy head of Ukraine's southern Kherson region due to a "fatal car crash". I mean come on at least maybe fake a "Ukrainian" rocket fired into his home or ...

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

Russian Air Defence is inefffective. It remains dangerous, but it is ineffective because the Ukrainians realise how dangerous it is and do not play to its strengths. IIf your airforce showed up 'properly' then perhaps that might be a game changer, but is didnt, showing a distinct preference ...

Cool image. Thanks.

I note the Midway has a different size in its two iterations despite showing as the same length. I'm not a carrier guy: did the Midway grow in length after its update?

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

Of course, Russian Air Defence has added greatly to its prowess by throwing fairly inaccurate old stock AD missiles in order to kill more civillians

Another victim of Ukrainian propaganda. The missiles in the Ukrainian air defense system are expired, and they fall when they try to repel cruise ...

Re: USN Carrier Graphic

It's interesting that the number of elevators has decreased at Ford. It would be interesting to look at the calculations. Decreased number of airplane sorties due to better ammunition accuracy and the aircraft's probability of overcoming enemy air defenses/fighters?

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

Because Russia has not achieved air supremacy over its ground troops. And as mentioned above, air defense is part of a combined arms approach. Lack of any combined arms talent has failed Russians horrifically. Therefore, Russian air defense can't be "highly" effective when the body bags are piling ...

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

Russian AD covers Russian troops and objects from ukrainians Tocka and HIMARS and (in very rare cases) planes.
I do not see how the Russian air defense can be responsible for the fact that the Ukrainian air defense is not suppressed, and Russian Air Forces don't operate in deeps of Ukraina ...

A little bit of air cover would help don't ya think?
Yes, air cover is necessary. This is a trivial assertion that does not require proof.
My post was about Russian air defense, not about air cover.

Re: The Russian Air War and Ukrainian Requirements for Air Defense

I question how one can even remotely consider using the word "highly effective" when after nine months nothing resembling air superiority has been achieved. Given the apparent imbalance between Russian and Ukrainian capabilities.

That's a strange statement. It is obvious that Ukrainian aviation ...

Btw anybody doubt that while marching out of bone-strewn ruins of Kyiv, Baghdad, or Homlet some scribe in Genghis's army was writing..this was bad, but not like Carthage!
