Can you lift mortars and howitzers?

Hey all!

I've been enjoying the game but run into a question I can't solve. Can I lift mortars and howitzers with helicopters?

It doesn't seem like it, but the way certain scenarios are constructed it leaves me wondering. I'm currently playing Hill 50 - Day 1 - Alabama Ticks (4 March, 1966).There ...

Re: Advice - Axis Campaign, end of Aug 1942

An update: having restarted the game from April '42 and tried the different approach of advancing toward Moscow instead...I took Moscow in Dec '42. Pretty remarkable just how much having those FBDs acting as superdepots helped.

Now onto defense... thanks all for the help!

Re: Advice - Axis Campaign, end of Aug 1942

Thanks everyone! Yes, this is a game against AI :)

Appreciate the tips M60A3TTS. Some new ideas in your note will be very helpful - for example, I hadn't really considered how heavy the artillery pieces needed to be. And I think I unfortunately get it into a non-isolated supplied state, which may ...

Ehhh....not quite. I've got 10 or so German divisions in two corps doing their best to take it (hex is isolated, divisions are stacked with pioneers and heavy art.) but haven't quite cracked it yet. Any tips?

Thank you! Yet again I am reminded of just how important supply is in this game. Those are some good tips for getting it funneled to the right location. I'll push forward and let you know where I end up!

Re: Advice - Axis Campaign, end of Aug 1942

Where did you start your summer offensive, I assume you did own D+Z-town at start? An it is now 5 months ongoing?

Where is your Superdepot in the South? How is the Supply-situation down there? How is your Truck situation?
Note that the Ports in/at the Azov Sea can not import/export since Axis has ...

Advice - Axis Campaign, end of Aug 1942

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure how best to proceed with my Axis campaign and I'd love some help!

Here is where I am at, with some screenshots below:
-It's end of August 1942
-Casualty counts are 1.5M for Axis, 7.4M for SovietsI mostly achieved my objectives in 1941; I took Leningrad with Army Group ...

Finally want to figure this out...setting SU levels

Hey everyone,

OK - I finally want to figure this part of the game out. It's puzzled me for a long time.

How do automatic support unit reassignments work? I've read the manual and have done a ton of experimenting. Here is (more specifically) what I am confused about:

1. I recognize that the 0-9 ...

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

You don't have enough depots either close to the front line or in rear to serve as intermediaries. So you can't accumulate a ton of freight in the rear on one turn to send it to the front line the next.

Interesting - that should be easy to fix. Thanks for the advice. I would have guessed there ...

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

I wonder…is there anything I need to be doing with the production tab? I literally have not touched it…but presumably it’s there for a reason.

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

Fortified zones are a mystery to me. In some cities they have large values like the one you see in that image. In others, I can't increase their value at all even with SUs. Page 229 of the manual details the fort building process.

Just curious...in your game options, are the soviets at 100? As ...

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

Hmm - well I think I've found at least one difference.

All my fortified zones have a CV of 1. It looks like yours has a CV of 24. Maybe that might make a difference....how did you get that set up? Could that be a driver of how I lost so much ground in the winter?'

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

Thanks Jango and Loutro.

I find myself now in T51 (June '42), and I think my campaign has turned into a dud. I've tried a few probing attacks along several different fronts and don't see how I can make a breakthrough. Below are examples of the lines I'm against. CVs for the soviets are generally ...

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

I think that taking Leningrad in 1941 is a must. This does 2 things:
30 points (it is a game...)
It frees up 4th Panzer Armee

Hey all,

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

I will say lots of my units are now rated “under strength” (which I think refers to TOE). so I guess my supply lines probably aren’t all that great….

Re: How to approach the winter of 1941 as axis

A few questions came up as I read your message:

1. When you talk about the "mud turns" - what exactly do you mean? I've seen rains in October that cause light mud...but surely that's too early to stop?
2. When you talk about "digging in", what techniques do you use? The only thing I can think of ...
