Re: RTW3: v1.00.85 Public Beta Now Available

Thanks for this. Do I need to install v1.00.84 first? I'm currently on v1.00.81.

1891 to 1892 - Stormclouds Gather
The build programme I had outlined previously was making reasonably steady progress. I continued to work on expanding the dockyards and was doing what I could with the research budget. Money was still fairly tight and, as a result, intelligence gathering was ...

Re: A World Without Dreadnoughts - A China AAR

With regard to the smaller units, I had three Light Cruisers. Two were the Chao Yung Class, which were 4,700 tons with eight 5-inch guns. These had been built in France.

The other CL was Kuang Yi , of 4,500 tons with single 8-inch guns fore and aft. It had a secondary battery ...

A World Without Dreadnoughts - A China AAR

This, my first AAR for Rule The Waves 3, is a fuller account of the China save that I've posted periodic reports from on the thread '"Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error' . For ease of reading I'll give some initial background, recap the main events posted on that thread here and then ...

Re: Germany AAR

Thanks for this thread, I read it with particular interest because I was in the late stages of my own Germany campaign. I don't recall the RN being quite as combustible in my game though. 😀

Officers
• Fixed a bug where officers could have the same name.

Not really a bug, though, more of a gameplay inconvenience? One of the teams where I work has two guys with the exact same name. Plus the tradition of Private John Smith <Serial Number> in the British Army :)

Thanks to the ...

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

I authorised construction of Chen Nan . It's currently March 1915 and it will be complete in 34 months.

I opened the design for Chen Nan to do some more experimentation with the design boundaries. The first thing I noticed was that the Weight Remaining figure had gone up from 89t to 360t without me ...

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

Just to add, another possible factor is that I'm playing as China so available technology could be an issue.

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

Looking again at that illegal design for Tuo Chiang I've noticed that it has an 11" Belt whereas the AI designs I have intelligence on have armour below 10". Russia have completed one Rymnik Class BC that's reported as 10" armour but the detailed report on Izmail , the second in the class, still ...

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

My spies managed to get the details of the Russian BC, Izmail , that's currently under construction and should be the biggest BC in the world when it's launched.

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

The French managed to build a Battlecruiser, Aquitaine , in July 1911. Laid down in March 1909. 9" guns as per the Treaty. Doesn't seem that much different to Invincible , presumably being slightly heavier and/or faster has pushed it over the category boundary.

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

Out of curiosity, I decided to see if my Chinese designers would come up with something similar to the 12" gun Armoured Cruiser shown by mrchuck and they did, albeit with 11" guns. Those were the biggest I could fit on a domestically built design. The design checker didn't complain. It looked like ...

Shipyard Capacity Lowered by Blockade

I had just noticed that my 1st Light Cruiser Division had lost its last ship. I already had four replacements building so checked my shipyard capacity to see if I could build another one in my own yards, or would have to sub-contract it out to Austria. To my surprise I saw that my remaining capacity ...

Re: The endless war

Which nation are you playing as?

I'm playing as Germany and usually deal with Russia by keeping my main force in Northern Europe, so blockading the way in and out of The Baltic, and being nice to the Japanese so that they can blockade North East Asia.

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

Saw this on an intelligence report recently. Same German save as previously mentioned. Another AI Italian design. I assume that centre turret is either superimposed or there are some exceptionally fine tolerances at play. :D

Re: "Ship cannot be identified as any legal type" error

I encountered a pair of these Italian Armoured Cruisers in 1907 on my new Germany 1890 save started on v1.00.56. Leonardo Da Vinci Class, of 1900. Four 11" guns, more powerful than quite a few of the Pre-Dreadnoughts I've seen. Three built, they're essentially an earlier Battle Cruiser. Screenshot ...

I'll have a look through my other saves to see if there were any other large CAs built that were different from the ones I've posted already.

"What Destroyers doing?" :(

I now have no Heavy Cruisers.

On the bright side, while checking what Italy is up to, I noticed that Trento was actually one of a class of three. My fleet had sunk the first one, San Giusto , and the Germans got the other one.
