Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Very nice looking counters. I will see if I can get a fix out for both of those issues tonight. The infantry sprites changing size is a hack that I forgot about and shouldn't be necessary at all.

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Just released a very large update today that overhauls essentially the entire UI for the game. Let me know what you think!
Features include:
- Unit counters (currently NATOish style, but fully moddable) to increase map readability and make dealing with stacked units easier. These are optional but ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Thanks! Yes it's still slowly making its way around while I gather feedback and make improvements.
I guess that reminds me, I should post the Steam link here for anyone who wants to wishlist (it helps massively in Steam's algorithm later on).

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Very nice.
The stances may change (and are intended to be moddable, including allowing manual stance adjustment) but currently it's:
- Standing is very exposed, and it is triggered by moving more than 1 hex in a turn.
- "Prone" (maybe slightly misleadingly named) is much less exposed. This for ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Yes, there actually is one (it's used for the big aid station tents etc.).
The field is
"fixed_orientation": true
on the sprite definition in units.json
e.g.
"sprites": {
"hq_tent": { "files": "sprites/hq_tent.png", "fill_frac": 0.65, "fixed_orientation": true }
}

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
VERY nice. Now we just need a mod to replace all the terrain sprites so they don't look extra crappy behind the detailed tanks :D
Are a couple of vehicles near the bottom of the second image missing a turret?

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
I played around a little and its a fantastic start.
One recommendation is being able to click on the message and have the map center on the unit or action being addressed. At least I didn't notice it happening in my quick play through.
One thing you can do to make units stand out more is maybe ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
I've been playing this game non stop for almost a week. It's a fantastic start to what I feel will become the successor to Steel Panthers. I see that you've been updating it almost every day now and the improvements show.
One of my favorite features is the multiple unit move command (M). I'm ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
i liked the part that you included my fav battle, Arnhem, but while the map looks something like it, it didn't play or feel like it and that's not a bad thing, just a comment from someone who owns and plays every game and engine which covers this battle.
Yeah this is one of the earliest ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Thanks a lot.
I’m going to try creating a graphics mod using unit sprites in PNG format, matching the quality of the example.
If I understand correctly, I just need to create a folder for my mod within the `modules` folder—located at `C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Steel Company`—and drop all the ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Wow, those sprites look absolutely incredible.
Yeah definitely can't be in the base game if you don't own the IP unfortunately, but could be a very nice mod and a useful reference for any artists contributing sprites to the game.

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
On top of just improving the sprites themselves, I've also thought about adding some "high visibility" setting that adds prominent outlines, shadows, and/or highlights to all sprites (or whatever else might make them stand out). Or potentially even adding a setting/mod to switch to square symbolic ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Very nice!! The sprites definitely need to be made more legible somehow.
And great minds think alike... :D I already updated the engine to accept png yesterday, but it is not released yet. It will go out sometime today or tomorrow.

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
It would be great if there were still time to modify your code and increase the resolution of all the game's sprites (including terrain and all elements) to eliminate that pixelated look.
I could try to help you out with the graphics—on a voluntary, unpaid basis, depending on my availability, just ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
The first thing I notice immediately, as a graphics modder, is the very small size of the sprites used. Is this a program limitation, or can we envision modding these sprites with larger pictures to achieve a result better suited to modern screen resolutions?
Please, could you show me how to ...

Re: Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
Thanks everyone for the kind words! I'm glad people are already enjoying the demo.
Why didn't you post the news about this game (which is undoubtedly the future successor to *Steel Panthers*) on the "prehistoric" Shrapnel Games forum?
I suppose I should! Although I don't want to fall afoul of ...

Hi, I'm trying to get the game running on my machine, but I'm having trouble getting the libraries and font to install onto my machine (running Bazzite), I'll try a few other things, but if you have anything that might assist while I fiddle that would be nice. Thanks!
Thanks for trying it out ...

SP1 launched *31 years ago*. I was still a teenager then.
I guess I would have been a fetus :D
If you do try it, I would love to hear ANY feedback you might have (even if it's just "X felt confusing at first". I am basically blind to which parts are intuitive/unintuitive at this point, so I ...

Steel Company Development & Feedback (2D WWII Tactical Scale)
I have been developing a tactical-scale WWII game, which I (very humbly) hope will eventually be a worthy successor to the Steel Panthers series.
There are still many, many things to improve, but the demo build is available and ready for early playtesting.
ANY input from old wargamers (especially ...
