There are still plenty of casualties during the landing, but these are being caused during the beach assault rather than 10-20km off the beach by coastal artillery interdiction. I split the coastal guns from the supporting infantry and it definitely made life easier. I was able to destroy all of them within 1-2 turns and then land the infantry without any coastal gun interdiction. The best tactic was just to roam up and down the shoreline with the heavy ships and every time ...
